My Summary

These are all based on each fighter at the absolute height of their fear-instilling primes. Based more on actual "fear" of the strike and not necessarily "respect" of the strike.

  1. 1

    Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipović
    Mirko Filipović
    "Cro Cop"
    38-11-2, 1 NC
Right Leg Hospital, Left Leg Cemetery.
  2. 2

    Jon "Bones" Jones
    Jon Jones
    "Bones"
    27-1-0, 1 NC
Dhalsim-like reach, razor sharp elbows also with Dhalsim-like rage… It's safe to say people are wary to engage.
  3. 3

    Anderson "The Spider" Silva
    Anderson Silva
    "The Spider"
    34-11-0, 1 NC
Pinpoint Accuracy, chin not really tested (and don't use the Bonnar fight as any sort of argument, Bonnar's not on this list for a reason)
  4. 4

    "The Last Emperor" Fedor Emelianenko
    Fedor Emelianenko
    "The Last Emperor"
    40-7-0, 1 NC
Most Ruthless Form Ever. The Momentum in his GnP is almost unmatched P4P.
  5. 5

    "The Axe Murderer" Wanderlei Silva
    Wanderlei Silva
    "The Axe Murderer"
    35-14-1, 1 NC
You aren't called "The Axe Murderer" because people look forward to getting struck by you.
  6. 6

    Vitor "The Phenom" Belfort
    Vitor Belfort
    "The Phenom"
    26-14-0, 1 NC
Fast hands from beginning to end… if only we could get a mulligan on that middle portion of his career.
  7. 7

    Chuck "The Iceman" Liddell
    Chuck Liddell
    "The Iceman"
    21-9-0
In his prime he was the human rock'em sock'em robot.
  8. 8

    Maurício "Shogun" Rua
    Maurício Rua
    "Shogun"
    27-14-1
Once upon a time plastic surgery was a given following a battle with Shogun.
  9. 9

    Dan "Hendo" Henderson
    Dan Henderson
    "Hendo"
    32-15-0
When your a borderline world-class wrestler and even then most gameplans start with a focus on your right hand, it's safe to say there is some fear there.
  10. 10

    Cung Le
    Cung Le
    9-3-0
World-class technical abilities. Flashy & functional. Doesn't get taken down as much as he should, which at least in part points to hesitancy to get close to him.
  11. 11+

  12. 11

    "The Prodigy" BJ Penn
    BJ Penn
    "The Prodigy"  |  16-14-2
When he let his hands fly he was the best in the business, so long as it was within the first round. Timing was immaculate.
  13. 12

    Igor "Ice Cold" Vovchanchyn
    Igor Vovchanchyn
    "Ice Cold"  |  55-10-1, 1 NC
    Youtube.
  14. 13

    Semmy "Hightower" Schilt
    Semmy Schilt
    "Hightower"  |  26-14-1
Length & resume gets him on this list. Think Jon Jones with a preference for kickboxing and not ground game (relatively speaking).
  15. 14

    Junior "Cigano" dos Santos
    Junior dos Santos
    "Cigano"  |  21-10-0
Still a bit early to crown him, but if I'm gonna crown his ass then crown him!
  16. 15

    Shane "The Engineer" Carwin
    Shane Carwin
    "The Engineer"  |  12-2-0
Brock Lesnar has huge hands, Shane Carwin made him look like a girl scout from wrist to fingertips during their glove touch.
  17. 16

    Mark "Super Samoan" Hunt
    Mark Hunt
    "Super Samoan"  |  13-14-1, 1 NC
