The fighters are weighed in and Melvin Guillard missed the mark again ... but he says it wasn't his fault, so there's that.

We're in for a weird one.

Prelims are online at some point in space-time. Main card airs live on Spike TV at 9pm ET.

Enjoy!

You are right Idrownfish. These fights are weird because amateurs (Kimbo and Dada) are fighting and Legends way past their prime.

Right, ok, so even if it was a low blow, the ref obviously didn't see it, and wasn't going to do anything about it, so at that point Ken had 2 choices; 1, (what any mixed martian artist with a fight iq above 50 would do) continue fighting, or 2, just sort of hunker and hope against hope that the referee would decide to interfere way after the fact like "oh yeah! groin shots are illegal let me just call time out even though it happened ages ago."

All-in-all, huge Bellator supporter, but tonight was terrible. Talent like Campos and Sanchez will get washed out over those atrocious main events.

But Bellator can't be blamed. This card probably beat Bellator's record in terms of numbers. Now let's see how many of those people tune in for Galvao/Dantas next week. And Warren/Caldwell the week after.

You're not allowed to complain if you're contributing to the "issue" by only watching cards featuring nonsense like Kimbo/Dada.

I'm not complaining Mike, but Galvao vs Dantas and Warren vs Caldwell are not matchups that compare to what the UFC has to offer. Maybe they rely so much on freakshows because they don't have the best in the world.

But they're good fights. Both of which involve great fighters. That message wasn't directed at you specifically. Just in-general.

People need to stop pretending the UFC is perfect. They would do things just like this if it meant more viewers. But they don't necessarily have to because they have established names. It's hard for Bellator to establish names when people only tune in to see the Kimbo Slice fight. And then those some people ***** about it when the inevitable becomes a reality afterwards in the form of the fight being complete garbage.

Even then, what's the better card, tonight's Bellator, or Sunday's UFC? Probably Sunday's UFC, no? Well I'd wager that Bellator 149 pulls better numbers than UFC Pittsburgh.

You make a good point Mike. This card was garbage and the only thing anybody cared about was the headliners. If Sunday's UFC event doesn't do as well as this that will indeed indicate a casual fan problem.

They do. They have guys with talent who are definitely worth watching, but most of those guys have not made much of a name for themselves yet. And before you tell me that its not all about the casual fan allow me if I may to suggest that there is a middle ground between the "I LIKE KIMBO!" mouth breathers and the die-hards like us who are actually aware of the Bellator roster. There exists a median of fans who mostly only watch UFC because the guys they know about are mostly only in the UFC.

I mean when someone like Eddie Alvarez really makes a name for himself in Bellator he jumps ship to the UFC. Meanwhile, talented fighters like Phil Davis struggle to stand out in the UFC so they go to Bellator instead. Make no mistake. Davis' recent success is because the competition is easier in Bellator.

It's all about the ratings .. luke Thomas explained in detail  on podcast how viacom bellator parent company value and stock price decreased dramatically within last year later,  17% or something  they need their networks to pull through in big way , ratings , advertising, etc, they need some big time needle moving basically so ththat can call for desperate measures I guess... kimbo vs dada Miami! !

has everyone gone to bed or something? Who can tell me what Shamrock said in the post-fight interview? I had the sound off and all he does in the presser is sulk.

@MikeLovesTacosXD  I agree with you most of the time but this time I have to call ********.  Maybe this card is good for a TV executive who cares about moving the needle for ratings, but as a fight fan, other than the hilarity that ensued from watching Dada 5000 flop on the deck like a fish, this card was a solid meh for me.  I'm not gonna act like an elitist and say that I don't enjoy a freak show fight once in a while, because I thoroughly enjoyed watching Ken Shamrock vs Royce Gracie. But to have more than one freak show fight for a card, especially one as painful to watch as the Dada 5000 vs Kimbo fight as the co main, is not fun for me.  And I agree that if the UFC could find a way to do freak show fights (which you could argue they have been attempting to set up one with CM Punk) without backlash, they would.  But is it really unfair to say that these freak show bouts would be less taxing to watch if they were kept down to one per card?  Is that such an unfair criticism?

@buffaloben He said something along the lines of that he does believe he got robbed and he wished the ref did a better job spotting it.  He also was pissed when someone asked about why he didn't address it in the post fight interview.

Seems like there was some issues going on backstage.  Apparently, according to Mike Jackson, Ken Shamrock wasn't to happy with the size of his locker room, so he threw a fit and got Bellator's higher ups to have 8 fighters forcibly move from one of the bigger locker rooms to all fit into a smaller one.  Here is the video:
