Emelianenko vs. Fujita Wiki Update Wiki

Although he won the fight in the first round, Fedor Emelianenko looked beatable for the first time in his professional career after being dazed with a hard right hook from former Japanese professional wrestler Kazuyuki “Ironhead” Fujita during their featured bout at Pride 26. The feat was not repeated until Kevin Randleman supplexed the Russian during their fight at Pride Critical Countdown 2004.

“Kazuyuki Fujita is known for having a thick skull,” Bas Rutten said in the pre-fight lead-ins, “and he’s going to need it tonight, because Fedor Emelianenko’s punching power from the top is like nothing I have ever seen.” During Fujita’s walk-in, guest commentator Quinton “Rampage” Jackson called Fedor Emelianenko “a bad man.” During a competitive first round, Emelianenko looked to keep the pressure on Fujita by attacking him with combinations and takedown attempts at frequent intervals. But after a right hook from Fujita midway through the round put Emelianenko on queer street, commentator Stephen Quadros cried out “Emelianenko is in huuuge trouble!” Fedor, his legs barely under him, managed to clinch up with Fujita long enough to regain his faculties. Fedor went on to finish Fujita with a flurry of strikes followed by a Rear Naked Choke at the 4:17 mark, but the bout marked the first time he looked to be in trouble during a fight.

“That is a champion, right there,” Rampage Jackson said following Emelianenko’s submission victory. The win over Fujita marked the beginning of a six-fight streak during which Emelianenko finished each of his opponents in the first round of action.
