Welcome, lovers, dreamers, writers and romantics to the Tapology Poetry Corner! A place for poems, short stories, novels or any kind of creative writing. Just because we're hardened MMA fans, doesn't mean we don't have a softer side. Have you written a poem about Fedor Emelianenko's legendary career? A ballad about Jan Błachowicz? A fan-fic about Paige VanZant? Post it here!

Any and all artistic writing welcome and if it's related to MMA then even better!

Here's the Goods, IMHO

THE SUN RISING by John Donne

Busy old fool, unruly sun,
Why dost thou thus,
Through windows, and through curtains call on us?
Must to thy motions lovers' seasons run?
Saucy pedantic wretch, go chide
Late schoolboys, and sour prentices,
Go tell court-huntsmen, that the King will ride,
Call country ants to harvest offices;
Love, all alike, no season knows, nor clime,
Nor hours, days, months, which are the rags of time.

Thy beams, so reverend, and strong
Why shouldst thou think?
I could eclipse and cloud them with a wink,
But that I would not lose her sight so long:
If her eyes have not blinded thine,
Look, and tomorrow late, tell me,
Whether both the Indias of spice and mine
Be where thou leftst them, or lie here with me.
Ask for those kings whom thou saw'st yesterday,
And thou shalt hear, ll here in one bed lay.

She is all state, and all princes, I,
Nothing else is.
Princes do but play us; compared to this,
All honor's mimic; all wealth alchemy.
Thou sun art half as happy as we,
In that the world's contracted thus;
Thine age asks ease, and since thy duties be
To warm the world, that's done in warming us.
Shine here to us, and thou art everywhere;
This bed thy center is, these walls, thy sphere.

I CARRY YOUR HEART WITH ME by e.e. cummings

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
you go,my dear;and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)

i fear
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)

Go For It

The grass isnt always greener on the other side
Count your blessings
Life is a ride
Try not to hide

You are stronger than you know
Placebo effect is real though
Like getting high on blow
Colombian white snow

Dont live life to excess
Or you will end up a mess
Getting stressed
Failing all types of tests

When you have a chance
Really wing it, swing for it
Dont overthink ****
Prove you are legit and with true grit

I love it when people challenge the „line“ between academia and popular culture.  I once had to write a paper about Christianity and popular culture.  Showed that Christianity was part of the latter.  Cross necklace $$$$

I heard Christianity is actually based off of an old Celtic mythological figure and folklore, and Islam sprouted out of Judaism directly, I forget the exact details but take my word for it. Kind of funny. I will try to refresh my memory of the exact details but its all there for anyone to learn about. Most of it goes back to aliens and hybrid descended beings originally. Im not sure if there is a singular overseer God, I think there are probably many Gods or creator ascended beings, and many layers of reality/existence, but I think monotheism is too basic or close minded. The Abrahamic ones arent really true spirituality, if there is a singular overseer God of all realities/realms, its not what she/he (androgynous but likley more female in essence) intended. They are more about teaching subservience and arent too flexible, at least not enough for me. They (most Christians/Islamics specifically) dont consider reincarnation at all, which is a part of existence or living in many realms or dimensions (probably). But most people dont know what they are learning about with religion. It becomes more tribalistic and earthly, not of the higher realms, but there are many exceptions too. Much of it in holy books is alien metaphors and hidden meanings going back to when the aliens or "God" were genetically engineering human forms and other earth beings, when they emerged from the hollow earth after being chased down here by other aliens a long time ago.

Basically my view is almost all religions are Cargo Cults. Except those odd ones like Scientology, which are just regular cults that sucker people out of money. Funny story i worked with a guy that was a Scientologist and he bragged about his Scientology Bank account. He would put his life saving in this account that was run by the church when he died, and when he got reincarnated, the Church would find him in his new body and give him his money with interest. Yes he was ******** to say the least.

Back to the Cargo Cult. During WWII we would drop humanitarian packaged over poor undeveloped tribal people. They thought we were "Gods" and built churches or temples, and fake airfields and other Rubbish to please the Gods in returning with more goods. No it was a guy named David from Texas and he never returned. I feel most Major Religions are basically the same thing, just that out interpretation of God and Alien are the same. We build these churches and do these things to please "god" and most likely we were just visited by people from different planets

I think there's some truth to that, but I also think we're probably evolved to need moralistic heuristic frameworks to coordinate and survive as a species. Tioeken will probably know a lot more than me about this, but I believe there's a part of the brain which is processes faith and belief. It may not be possible for humans to exist without a moral code and cosmology any more than it would be possible for birds to fly without air currents. I've said many times before, everybody has a moral code and an accompanying philosophy, whether they want either of those things or not.

I think religions are a defining part of what makes us human, and I think Nietzsche was on to something when he wrote about the dangers and tragedy of the death of God--an issue we really haven't solved, and I dare say may account for the current panoply of degradation and debasement we are seeing particularly in the west. Perhaps this is just what it looks without God.

I think it was Weber who wrote about this quite a bit also and saw neuroses and what we refer to as identity or existential crises as symptoms of modernity. Such things almost never occurred, for example, in medieval times. His theory is that this is because in such times, at least in Europe, societies were so classist and feudal, and life was generally so simple and so rigidly structured as to make such things virtually impossible. There was no room in existence for such things. God was in heaven, was in control of everything, and if you were the son of a blacksmith you became a blacksmith, and that was it. There was a degree of ontological certainty in the world which did not exist when Weber was writing, and there's far less of it again by orders of magnitude in 2022, where ideas and concepts and questions can be spread between millions of people in minutes.

It's an interesting concept and I've no doubt it gels to some extent.

Psalms

And... back to poetry, sort of.

Psalm 139 - David

9 If I take the wings of the morning

and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,

10 even there your hand shall lead me,

and your right hand shall hold me,

and lead me in the way everlasting!

Psalm 91 - David

4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;

6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.

7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.

Duty

Age isnt a factor
I can still hold this rifle
We should be kamikaze deep impactors
I made an oath after I saw they attacked her

I will take down as many as I can
I would use my bare hands
Sneak around from behind
Bodies recline in my mind

To live a life without duty
Is to live a life without beauty
Remember the sacrifices we have all made
Our legacy will carry forth till the end of days

An Average Man

You are a lame old dog
Close to the end of your days
What do you have to show for it
Why do you deserve praise

Drowing yourself in sorrow
Alcohol your poison of choice
You smoke cigarettes like a junkie
And it seems you have lost your voice

You really believed in love, that it is true
But she left you when it was time and due
You dont even have kids to show for it
What was the point of this wedding permit

You pathetic snivelling wretch
Why is your life filled with regrets
A man is judged upon by his deeds
There is nothing left here but disease

When we are young we all have a chance
But time passes by like a glance
So grasp this life with both hands
Circumstances be damned

Dont end up like this man
And the many haunted souls of this land
Take opportunities and work as hard as you can
With noble pursuits this life can still be grand

They Came From The Sky

You mechanized Gods of the sky
From the stars in deep space did you awake
Reigning down blue crimson fire
You lay waste to millions of many a race

Traveling the galaxies far and wide
A metallic weaponized genius level tribe
Supersonic speed 1000s of miles per hour
These are machine beings of immense stature and power

Call them Gundam bots or Transformers
They have left many widows and mourners
On planets near and far away, in all corners
These nuke wielding Gods are beings we must obey

Or we shall all dearly pay
With blood stains and tears
They will descend down here
Taking Earth, making it a mini base
Then with their pet humans travelling into hyperspace

No sorry, I know that was grimey, but I was inspired by all the council estate areas of the UK Ireland, they are all similar, loss of innocence happens to many there when young, drug addiction, work shyness, government dependency, **** gangs, **** culture, teen pregnancy, lack of investment... I will try some happier ones

@WastelandWanderer

Honestly, that was great! I didn't grow up on a council estate myself but I lived near a few and many of my friends did we spent many afternoons and evenings playing football and just generally ******* about on council estates so that poem brought back so many memories! My mate Joe's alcoholic dad and his new girlfriend in an oversized and ill-fitting pink tracksuit that kept sliding down to show her G-string, the time I booted the ball over the fence of a park and climbed over to find the other side was a dumping ground for needles but still got the ball back with my bare hands because I was a 14 year old ****** who didn't know any better, the time my mate crashed his bike into a car, breaking a wing mirror in the process, debagging (stupid prank where you come up behind someone pull someone and pull their trousers down that was a big thing for a few years in my teens), all those memories coming flooding back! ****, I miss those times!
