Welcome, lovers, dreamers, writers and romantics to the Tapology Poetry Corner! A place for poems, short stories, novels or any kind of creative writing. Just because we're hardened MMA fans, doesn't mean we don't have a softer side. Have you written a poem about Fedor Emelianenko's legendary career? A ballad about Jan Błachowicz? A fan-fic about Paige VanZant? Post it here!

Any and all artistic writing welcome and if it's related to MMA then even better!

"Not with a bang, but a whimper."  T.S. Eliot
There's no "e" in Moorlady.  "If this be error, and upon me proved; I never writ, nor no man ever loved." Wm. Shakespeare (allegedly)

Still working on a response to @Wasteland's prompt about the streets of London. Don't have a title yet, and there's a ways to go, but here's what I have so far.

-------

In the crannies between Pepys and Jewry where
Postmodern stockjobbers slam rounds of
Gin and tonic as the world staggers
About them
It is said that the
Trans-legitimate sprogs of
Spring-Heeled Jack still
Ply their wares of steel and flesh.

The smart money, as the digital bookmakers
Say, is that he weren’t a man at
All, just an idea that wrenched
Itself from the
City’s psyche after the
Roman wall crumbled and the
Swarming square mile lurched after
Its empire and vomited itself out into the country.

The storytellers, though, at least the ones who remain
In the lockjawed Metropolis where reticence seems
A cardinal virtue, maintain that the interloper’s
Mighty leaps
Still mark his territory between
Battersea Park and Tower Hill, where
He sired his dirty brood before they scurried off
Into the twisting, wretched passageways past Aldgate.

-------

So now I have to wrestle with the essence of the City's legacy after the two Jacks. Oy gevalt.

Thanks mate. I haven't really done much with "shaped" poetry before. Fun stuff.

A CONSPIRACY MOST FAR FETCHED

You’ll hear it here and nowhere else,
A tale of brothers, friends, wealth,
It is only hearsay, slander else,
Conspiracy most far fetched.

And yet, together came one born, one bred,
Two fighters met, their styles, wed,
Two souls to share one roof, one bed,
Conspiracy most far fetched.

Their affinities went beyond the cage,
To games of skill and games of wager.
And Chaos accumulated debts.
Conspiracy most far fetched.

To assuage his creditors they hatched a plan,
An epic battle with epic elan,
Friends turned enemies, on honor’s errand.
Conspiracy most far fetched.

But what happened belied their tale.
The punches were light, the takedowns half-hearted.
Taking child’s pose, Gamebred was resignéd.
Conspiracy most far fetched.

If I were a lendor, and had a sure thing.
Like a favorite in Chaos,
And a Gamebred who missed wide with the knee, I’d
Consider that the gambler had settled his debt.

But what do I know?  This is only a
Conspiracy most far fetched.

@Moorlady

That was amazing! Firstly, thanks for introducing "elan" to my vocabulary and secondly, I'd love to see how Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington thought would react to that lol! Covington's reaction in particular would be priceless!

War and Peace

To the lawyer who, mounting his steed, defends “losers” born, illegally beat, brunts of “civility,” curs of “morality,” he brings war.

To the doctor, who cries in his sleep, railing ‘gainst parasites on sickness and disease, he fights for their lives and their ease, anonymous bringer of war.

To the educator who won’t give the man his labor for free, but is always teaching whomever he can, for the rights of labor, he brings war.

To the scientist who defends free speech, against armies of correctness, censorship, and suppression, at cost of reputation, he brings war.

Choose your war and find your peace, defend the helpless, defend the least; in doing for others, you’ll find relief.  To the good guys go the blow jobs!

@Stephen Do we know if Covington can read... aside from playing cards?  At least he'll have some time now.

I'm fairly sure he can read to at least a basic level. Whether he can comprehend what he reads is a different matter though.

@Sabbath You can't mess up more than I did on the haiku front.  All you have to be able to do is count to five and seven, and I couldn't even do that!

@Sabbath

You don't have to be of any standard to post here, feel free to just type out whatever random **** comes into your head and use this thread to practice on. Who knows, maybe one day one of these ****posts on this thread will turn out to be a rough draft for a masterpiece!

And despite the name, it doesn't have to be poetry I can be any form of writing like a book, short story or whatever.

Open invite to @Hadrian Caesar

I'm not sure if @Hadrian Caesar is following this thread but I saw your post in the boxing thread about your "Can boxing be a way out of poverty?" asking for advice so if you want, feel free to post drafts of it in this thread if you want for feedback. I'm no academic myself but I'm sure others might have some useful feedback if you think it'll help!

Brilliant @Kyle.  Would love to see a repost of that @Hadrian!  It seems like there are several ways out of poverty with combat sports:  the fighting, the teaching, the commentating, the journalism, etc.
