 Torres began karate when he was four years old and started wrestling at the age of 14.
 Torres and his mother would travel the country in their younger years for the national karate competitions,
 and at age 16 he met his trainer, Master Bob Schirmer, as he is still with today.

 Jose Torres (25-1 amateur MMA) is a two-time IMMAF Bantamweight gold medalist (2014-2015).
Torres was defeated in his amateur debut, it went to a split-decision with a last minute opponent who boasted an experienced record. Jose then continued his amateur career with 25 straight wins.
Jose chose college and a wrestling scholarship to Division II McKendree University over getting paid to fight.
He graduated in May 2016 with a degree in leadership and sports and exercise science with a 3.8 grade-point average.
