Pride 7 Wiki
After shining in their main and co-main event slots of Pride 6, Kazushi Sakuraba and Mark Kerr resumed headlining duties for Pride 7, which was held in September of 1999 at the Yokohama Arena. Once again proving his superiority over athletes of his time on the ground, Sakuraba submitted opponent Anthony Macias via Armbar in the second round. In the main event, American wrestler and Bas Rutten-trained prodigy Mark Kerr ran into the first roadblock of his career, as Ukrainian kickboxer Igor Vovchanchyn stopped him with knee strikes to the head while the fighters were on the ground in the second round. Unfortunately for Vovchanchyn, his knee strikes to the head of his grounded opponent were against the rules, and his win was overturned and isntead ruled a No Contest.
Pride 7 also featured the promotional debut of future champion Wanderlei Silva.
