Jones is a good striker but he’s just timid af. Doesn’t know when to let his hands go

I think Mendonca is really better striker than Jones. Faster and more active. If Basharat decides to fight in a stand-up position, it could be close.

It’s forward pressure of Mendonca vs counter striking of Javid

it all depends on which style you value in MMA more to determine who's the better striker between Jones and Mendonca

Jones has way better hands because he's got a boxing foundation while Mendonca has way better kicks because of his Muay Thai foundation

I think in this matchup though being a Muay Thai specialist is less favorable than being a Boxing specialist, Basharat switches stances a lot so for Mendonca to try and chop up his legs I find it kinda hard to happen. plus Mendonca really likes to throw kicks and Basharat is pretty good at catching them and turning them into takedowns so that's something I could see happening in the fight. lastly the Muay Thai squared stance is disadvantageous for defending takedowns and considering how aggressive Mendonca is at times, I could see Basharat using his momentum and instability coming forward against him to secure a takedown

Mendonca will land some clean stuff in this fight for sure, I just don't think they're going to be enough to negate Basharat's chin and his ability to roll with punches

i was going to do a write up on imavov vs gastelum but yeah that's out of the window now

IMO a much more intriguing matchup here, under different circumstances I think I would pick Strickland, not as talented as Imavov but definitely the more durable fighter with better cardio

not sure how Strickland's cardio will look after having to cut weight for like the 2nd time inside 30 days though, unless this fight is at 205 I'm picking Imavov

I’ve got Sean. Way harder fight for imavov and Sean has lots of experience

Also not like he has cardio issues as it is but 205 is better for Sean here as he’s something like 220 out of camp

yeah his cardio is fine I could only imagine it being strained if he had to cut to 185 again, dude looked like a zombie weighing in at 185 against cannonier

at 205 though its a whole different ball game, I wonder if there's any science to back up the opinion that the lack of recovery time from having eaten cannonier bombs 20 days ago might hurt his chin durability in this super quick turnaround matchup

Once again extreme weight-cutting rears it's ugly head and fighters can't fight in their "natural" weight class. What ********.

OddSmokerSteve, I liked the article. Nice and concise.

I looked at Strickland at weigh in from his Cannonier fight and I am now wondering how tf was that guy able to cut to welterweight at all?

Also when I made my picks yesterday Eubanks/Cachoeira was listed at BW so tap changed it since then. Interesting. When was that fight made?
