Brunson vs. Holland
Derek Brunson, TKO, R3
Ooohh, poor Holland. He thinks he’s a good fighter just cause he fought 5 times in 2020. Brunson is a way better fighter. Holland bit off WAY more than he could chew. And this is coming from a Kevin Holland fan. (Editor’s Note: I didn’t really like Kevin Holland until he beat Charlie Ontiveros, and I thought his decision over Stewart was straight up bullcrap at first)

@Tjl0106

So I didn't know exactly what to make of Holland myself for a while, but do you really think that the fact that he finished Jacare the way that he did (KO off his back on a guy that's only really been Koed by Whittaker and Moose's upkick) in his own realm (the ground) isn't more impressive than anything Brunson's ever done aside from maybe sparking an old Machida or out-wrestling Yoel up until he got finished by him?

Hahhaha this is a funny back and forth jac is getting old he got kod, brunson not as old but has had has his ass handed to him quite a bit.
Him beating that wet behind the ears kid with weird name doesn't prove anything.
The question is does derek fights smart take down the more explosive guy and can he?
He will be kod if he tries to stand, he has had zero dark thirty real kos in longer than he has gotten a raise.

@drmaxis2 You act like thats the only good thing he did. Everyone doubting Brunson always. What about Shabazyan? Brunson prolly sent that guy to retirement. And Brunson has prolly significantly evolved since the Jacare fight.

@Tjl0106I mean the Shahbazyan win was pretty legit, but that dude's not proven whatsoever so it's easy to write off as well. And the reason Brunson doesn't get an overabundance of respect is because in addition to his lukewarm wins aside from the two performances I mentioned, he's been the ranked middleweights' punching bag for the last 10 years. Maybe if he wasn't a stepping stone for anybody that's super legit in the division with minimal star-making performances people wouldn't disrespect him.

Like I said, Holland just basically lapped Brunson's career by making Jacare look like easy work when Brunson couldn't help but get knocked out by alligator man TWICE

There’s a 90% chance one of them pulls out before this fight happens so this whole conversation is moot. That being said, Holland is too crafty and creative, he will find something to finish Brunson before the final bell.

@drmaxis2 youre not wrong but the Shabazyan win might’ve started a new streak. I mean, Holland beats 4 prospects and then knocks out a VERY OLD Jacaré. Holland hasn’t beat any serious threats, while Brunson has beat Shabazyan, Machida, and, like you said, was winning against Romero before losing.

@Tjl0106 You're not wrong that it COULD be Brunson turning over a new leaf, but that's no reason to heap praises on him just yet, like I said, in cases of unproven prospects like Shahbazyan the vet is SUPPOSED to win, so I'm not gonna pat him on the back for gate-keeping successfully. Also you act like Machida wasn't VERY OLD (39) when Brunson knocked him out too. Also while the performance against Romero is for sure laudable, I'm not gonna overpraise a performance that he also got knocked out in. So basically in terms of good wins they each have 1 good KO win over an old legend. Brunson is obviously more tested by nature of longer tenure, but I think Holland would beat any of the guys that Brunson has beaten over the years.

@Tieoken big disagree on Dawson being a lock. Santos is a savage and is a more natural 155 whereas we've never seen Dawson there yet (in the UFC against quality opposition I mean). That alone should cause doubt/ make you question if he's going to be undersized/ not acclimate as well 10 pounds up. On top of all that, Santos hasn't lost a fight since 2009, and even that was by split decision. I even favor Santos in this spot.

I've become a big fan of Holland, but doesn't it kind of feel like he's going to hit a brick wall soon?

He's a little too loose in there. Talking, and getting wild, and just not always fighting with a high IQ. Just seems like someone's going to sleep him soon. Someone who might not even be as good as him.
