Predictions: 5 of 9 Winners, 2 Perfect, 300 Points   |   Tied for 296th

Continuing off the heels of XFC 24, World Series of Fighting puts on it's third show tonight from Las Vegas.

A main event rematch between perennial UFC welterweight contender Jon Fitch and big show vet Josh Burkman tops the card. Fitch finished -- yes, finished -- Burkman via Choke in his second-ever UFC fight back in 2006 back when Burkman was a bigger name than Fitch. My how times have changed. Fitch enters the rematch as a heavy favorite.

In other action, Tyson Steele meets Steve Carl in the welterweight co-main event, Strikeforce vet Lyle Beerbohm meets UFC vet Jacob Volkmann at 155 and undefeated prospect Justin Gaethje takes on Brian Cobb at 155.

the prelims feature talented vets and up-and-comers, including Dan Lauzon, Carson Beebe, John Gunderson, Jeff Smith and Jerrod Sanders.

The main card kicks off at 11pm ET on NBC Sports Network, while prelims will be streamed live all over the MMA net beginning at 830pm.

He's been getting "lucky" a lot lately, and if that continues it's just as good as being legit. lol.

It's typical that the guy that lost the first fight will be more motivated in the rematch and the winner tends to come in complacent.  I don't think it is luck I think it was Burkman's night!

It wasn't the most impressive submission of the year in technical terms, but Josh walking away while leaving Fitch's lifeless body behind him has got to be one of the most badass things I have ever witnessed.

EDIT: HOLY **** I JUST REWATCHED THE VIDEO AND THE REFEREE WAS FREAKING 5 FEET AWAY FROM THEM. THANK GOD JOSH IS AN INTELLIGENT HUMAN BEING

So I just got home to find that Burkman subbed Fitch? ***?! Also found out that was the only pick I got wrong, and I will gladly take a 5th place finish.

And I just watched the video

1) Burkman is a G. The way he just let Fitch go was awesome
2) Fitch's reign as a top 10 fighter is over
3) Dana is somewhere laughing his ass off
4) How bad does that look for Mazzagatti. We already knew he was a bad ref, but this has to make him look extra incompetent.

how is a basic guillotine the sub of the year????

Carl's submission was far superior that Burkman's, but everyone is getting caught in the hype of him walking off.

While it was cool to see the sub itself was not that impressive.  Credit needs to be given to the Even Flow DDT that burkman landed as well!!!

I believe it's because of who he subbed, and the fact that he put him completely to sleep with a guillotine from half-guard, and like a kind sir stopped instead of murdering him due to poor officiating. I'm not sure if it's going very high on my subs of the year list, but I definitely agree with blue frog do on it being the most devastating evenflow DDT since Raven vs. Dreamer IV. That combined with the piledriver on XFC made for a happy night.

CthulhuJones, Lopati

You just made my heroes list for that reference to Raven! ECW for life!

Lopati, it's true that it was not the most rare submission, but indeed but it was on the "unsubmittable" Fitch. AND, it was a clean choke out and the ending was a delicious icing AND I'm no Fitch fan, AND just look at how many people were ready to just write off Burkman as a stepping stone for Fitch to become Mr. WSOF.  I will always applaud when a fighter overcomes those odds, just like Bigfoot vs. Reem, the universe decided the hubris was too much and decided to right the balance...

$223K for that?!

But it will definitely go on MY list, and maybe offset the collective effort.

Fitch would have died if Burkman didn't release the hold, Mazagatti had no clue as usual.

It's the submission of the year because he submitted someone who was thought to be unsubmittable. It's not just technique. More goes into soty and koty rankings.

I would give it soty only if he wasn't rocked as bad as he was.  Almost like if Newton actually caught mo in a choke it he fell, it would seem like a pointless submission.  I understand it was on Fitch..and I hate Fitch...but in my eyes it wasn't that great of a sub.

Fitch was submitted?  Burkman knocked him down, and then jumped on him when he was rocked and stunned.

The knock-down set it up.  It was less a submission than it was a combination KO / submission.

I am saddened.  Jon Fitch is someone I admire and support.  I hope he can overcome his recent career setbacks.  It will be a measure of his will, determination and character if he can psychologically set these things aside, and refocus on getting his career back on track.

How can you admire him when he STILL acts like he's the best ever and needs that title shot? That is so disrespectful to the game, and to his opponents. Shut up Jon Fitch. Shut. Up.

You know, to say that a submission isn't a submission because it only happened when a guy was stunned from strikes is like saying that GNP isn't a knock out because it only happened because the guy was taken down.

No one is saying that Burkmann would have subbed him in a BJJ match, but he most absolutely did submit him in an mma match. That was an mma submission. I'm talking to you Bill.
