Predictions: 8 of 11 Winners, 4 Perfect, 605 Points   |   Tied for 635th

Hawes vs. Ferreira
Brunno Ferreira, TKO, R1
Hawes is the more skilled fighter, but he has a glass jaw and Ferreira has death touch power. Those two things are a recipe for a bad night for Hawes. There's a possibility Hawes lands clean first and puts Ferreira out, but I'll take the more durable guy here.

Arlovski vs. Cortes-Acosta
Waldo Cortes-Acosta, TKO, R2
Arlovski is a legend, but he should retire at this point. At 44 years old he has one of the most fragile chins in the heavyweight division and Waldo can crack. First or second round KO easy money.

Semelsberger vs. Parsons
Matthew Semelsberger, TKO, R1
Parsons is going to come out and try to pressure and wrestle Semelsberger from bell to bell. Parsons has been hurt on the feet in every one of his fights in the UFC thus far, and none of those guys possess the power in their hands that Semelsberger does. He may have success with the wrestling early, but I don't think he survives a full 3 rounds without getting caught and put out.

McGhee vs. Bolaños
Marcus McGhee, SUB, R2
McGhee is a can crusher to this point in his UFC career. Luckily for him he's fighting another can in Balaños. Balaños is a good striker, but not a very good mixed martial artist. The odds should be a lot closer than they are because if McGhee decides to keep this standing he could lose this fight. My gut is telling me McGhee doesn't have the IQ of a fish and takes this fight to the mat for the W.

Yes, I understand that we will always end up having a bad choice, I rarely criticize anyone for that. But Mitchell, Durden, Almeida, Kelleher and O'Neil (O'Neil, Kelleher and Durden were bad pick) But they simply don't compare to Buday pick. Anyway, I only got into the subject because many were talking about it, but at the end of the day this discussion doesn't change anything, let's all continue and end up making some bad pick in the future.

picking durden makes more sense than picking buday

for everyone that has followed tagir's career, it's pretty obvious that he's veeery inconsistent. the skill is there for sure but we have seen him get outdogged and lose grappling exchanges to guys that are near the wrestling level of durden. meanwhile, durden had shown the exact opposite leading up to the fight. he's generally mr consistent, he will fight through being tired, he doesn't easily concede positions, overachiever, had momentum going into this fight etc etc

on the other hand, looking into gaziev it's pretty apparent that he has fought and beat way better guys than buday regionally and his only noticable fault was that whenever he gets tired, all the technique  goes out the window and the fight becomes a clownfest - something, though, that was put at ease when everyone saw him pull up with an incredible physique during fight week. it was pretty obvious buday wasn't gonna homer simpson his way into another robbery decision in this one, the skill and power / strength difference was simply too big

if you picked kelleher though, yeah.. shame on you whoever it is

Looking at level of opposition is important but not everything. For example the upcoming fight between Nolan and Motta. Motta is a level above the guys Nolan has fought but stylistically Nolan would seem to have the advantage with his huge reach advantage, even though he's too happy to scrap to not frequently go into the pocket. But from the outside he could certainly choose to piece Motta up, in particular the inside leg kick which Motta has shown vulnerability to before as well as the straight jab which Motta has huge problems defensding against despite keeping a high guard. Then Nolan possibly grappling gives him yet more tools than Motta's onedimensional approach of just headhunting boxing.

But then of course Motta has more than 3x the number of pro fights and Nolan is making his UFC debut so the line is probably wide.
The point is if we just looked at level of opposition they fought Motta should be the favorite.

I’m done giving motta the benefit of the doubt. When I watched tape, I was not nearly as impressed with Nolan as I remembered. If he wasn’t 6”3, there wouldn’t really be anything special about his game. However, motta is so one dimensional, has no chin, and has proven time and time again that he can’t compete at the ufc level

He might get touched up, but Nolan should take this easily. Motta is so terrible

I had a similar take. Watched tape of Nolan, mostly came away feeling the guy is too green to join the UFC. He should have another 6 pro fights first. But then when I watched Motta, he is just so onedimensional and possibly a bit chinny. Also he should be fighting at Featherweight, he is not even close to modern Lightweight size.

Nolan's line is completely unbettable though, once again parlayers are taking a massive risk on a very green and unproven fighter. I'm going to stay away but at +250 currently on my best book Motta would be the play if any.

Bold play Glise but not a bad bet Motta is a glass cannon Nolan is an unknown and was stopped in his ammys.
Low IQ casuals picked Motta to beat veteran Jim Miller via ko no less, now they pass on a much softer target.
Actually a couple people I respect also picked him to beat Jim likely based on ageism.
I have Nolan but love a good upset esp when people think it's for sure.

I'd consider taking Motta if he got that high too but the UFC knows what they're doing here. Nolan is green but he's got tons of raw skill. This fight is going to end badly for Motta.
