Prediction Comments

Predictions: 6 of 13 Winners, 2 Perfect, 365 Points   |   Tied for 2353rd

Emmett vs. Topuria
Ilia Topuria, SUB, R2
Going to be brief. This card is tricky but I really like this main event for Topuria. I honestly think this will not be very competitive. Ilia should roll here.

Ribas vs. Barber
Maycee Barber, TKO, R3
Tough one to call. Ribas has the grappling but her wrestling is not excellent and she is smaller. Her striking offence has improved but her chin is still vulnerable. I can see Maycee stuffing the takedowns and winning the striking. In fact I think the biggest threat to Maycee will be from judo throws in the clinch. If she hits the ground with Amanda on top it could be trouble because Amanda's BJJ is elite. I actually sense a finish here from either side.

Tafa vs. Lane
Justin Tafa, TKO, R1
Lane is bigger and quite mobile but he will rush in with his chin exposed. Neither are good but I do expect Tafa to crack him and probably put him out.

Onama vs. Santos
Gabriel Santos, DEC
I think Santos is the real deal. His fight against Lerone Murphy who I rate really impressed me. And unless Onama catches him early I think this will be Santos's fight from round 2 onwards.

Allen vs. Silva
Brendan Allen, DEC
I am very worried about my pick here. I think Allen has the wrestling to get this to the ground. I think Silva is very good in his submission defence and won't be gassed out like Muniz so will stay safe. But I see Allen controlling from top and winning rounds. I really really hope Allen does not try to play punching games with Silva like he did with Curtis. Because if he does he could get his head put through the canvas. But I expect him to use his fight IQ and take this down early and often. Risky fight.

Magny vs. Rowe
Neil Magny, DEC
I like Rowe but he is fighting someone his size for once. And if he gets put on his back he stays there too long. Magny should take him down and control him.

Brown vs. Turman
Randy Brown, TKO, R2
Turman is smaller and hittable. And Randy has power. He can get taken down but i am not sure Turman has the wrestling to do this. If he does get on top it could be trouble but I think Brown keeps distance and pieces Turman apart. Also I do not like the fact that Turman is dropping down a weight class for the first time.

Rębecki vs. Radzhabov
Loik Radzhabov, DEC
Loik is really good. And if his cardio holds up he should win this. Rebecki is too hittable and I think he could gas out when Loik wrestles him.

Ricci vs. Robertson
Tabatha Ricci, DEC
Ricci's BJJ is better. Ricci's wrestling is better. Ricci's striking is about the same but has more power. Gillian is not subbing Ricci and I don't think she can hold her down and lay down the GnP so I see this going one way.

Zhumagulov vs. Van
Zhalgas Zhumagulov, DEC
Liam Gallagher should win this. The UFC obviously want him to win one. Van is good but his takedown defence does not look good enough. He will improve but this looks too much too soon.

Peek vs. Mariscal
Trevor Peek, TKO, R1
Peek by murder.

Emmers vs. Jenkins
Jamall Emmers, DEC
Great fight. Both are great. But I think Emmers size here will be the deciding factor. I think he will neutralize Jenkins leg kicks and wrestling and win a decision.

Brundage vs. Dumas
Cody Brundage, SUB, R2
This should be Brundage's win. But first fight of the night so I expect to lose this one

@rusty funny you say rowe fighting someone his own size is gonna be disadvantageous. I actually think it’s gonna be disadvantageous for magny. Magny is used to being bigger than everyone & using that to his advantage. In his old age with his deteriorating athleticism, speed, and durability, I think he’s actually in a lot of trouble on the feet. Rowe is much faster, hits way harder, and has an athelticism advantage. I do worry about the wrestling of magny but the bjj of rowe is good enough to survive. My only worry is he shows no urgency to get back to his feet. But magny has really been on the decline recently so maybe rowe can sweep him or sub him

I'm smoking weed, but that doesn't change the fact Topuria finishes Kattar in 10 minutes or less. I'll give Kattar the respect of saying club and sub rather than pure KO, but that's the best I can do. Topuria won't play with his meal like Max did. And he doesn't have a MASSIVE hole in his game like Giga "please stay at range so I can kick you" Chikadze.

so kattar being bigger, having better cardio, managing distance better and being by far the superior boxer with good takedown defense isn't enough to consider kattar beating topuria let alone lasting more than 10 minutes? i've never seen someone be this biased without topuria even having beat emmett yet, lol

I have zero reason to be biased, I'm merely commenting on what I've observed and I think you're a little more impressed with Kattars boxing than me. He looks good against lesser competition where he can exploit skill-gaps, but as soon as he steps up against truly talented guys he loses. Max, Zabit, Moicano... And probably Topuria too. Show me 1 win in his last 10 fights that came from beating a true FW contender...

he was robbed against emmett, beat giga and dan ige whos a solid top 10-ish guy in the division

losing to max and zabit isn't something to be ashamed of, lol those are generational striking talents and if the zabit fight was 5 rounds as it was supposed to be, kattar would have won

now show me topuria beating someone who's not a grappler with terrible striking or any win he has that is anywhere near kattar's 3 wins

I agree that he was robbed against Emmett and I backed Kattar to win that fight... But I don't think Emmett's all that special either. Emmett, Ige, Kattar, Nate Landwehr, Damon Jackson, Mirsad Bektic... All decent fighters, but all would lose or have lost to guys like Yair, Max, Volk, Evloev and I believe Topuria belongs among that tier.

Tonight's the night we find out, but my mind will be blown if I'm wrong. Topuria isn't some sloppy grappler with a good right hand and 5 minutes of cardio like many of the fake contenders are - his power is complimented with precision, high IQ grappling and savage pressure.

i'm not saying topuria is going to lose to emmett but it's ridiculous to be even comparing him to someone like kattar this early

he simply does not have the body of work, resume or variety in opponents to compare him to vets like kattar, max, yair etc

how does his cardio look against someone who can survive the first 2 rounds against him in a 5 round fight? what happens when he fights someone with better boxing than him? what happens when he fights someone who can stuff his takedowns over and over again? those are all questions that need to be answered for topuria to be given the credit that a lot of people are giving him

I don't know if Emmett is going to be the one to do it but I feel like the person to hand Topuria his first loss will put his lights out cold.  He leaves himself open quite a bit when he goes for his flurries, I think the right shot at the right time will put him out.  Emmett certainly has the power to do that but I'm really not sure if he can pull it off.
