Prediction Comments

Predictions: 10 of 12 Winners, 5 Perfect, 695 Points   |   6th Place

Vettori vs. Cannonier
Jared Cannonier, DEC
Small cage probably favors Vettori but Cannonier throws great leg kicks. Both guys throw good volume but Cannonier definitely has more power. This fight pretty much comes down to how many minutes can Vettori have Cannonier clinched up against the cage. He doesn't need to land a TD to win this fight but he will definitely need to wear on Cannonier hard to try and bank 2 rounds. I don't see Cannonier respecting Vettoris power at all and if he uses his jab like he did against Strickland along with his leg kicks, he should win here. Vettori wears damage pretty well but Cannonier is going to land the more damaging shots in this fight.

Tsarukyan vs. Silva
Arman Tsarukyan, TKO, R1
Murder.

Duncan vs. Petrosyan
Armen Petrosyan, DEC
I think Petrosyan dances in and out and uses his kickboxing to take a decision here. He's going to work CLDs leg, compromise his movement, and try to win a point fight. CLD has a massive reach advantage but Petryosyans kickboxing is so good I still see him being really hard to hit. The one worry here for me is Petrosyan could land more volume but still lose this fight if CLD is landing enough of his own shots because Petrosyan really, really wears damage when he gets hit. He's got a great chin and will stay on his feet but his face gets busted up pretty easily. Petrosyan has been sparring with Roman Kopylov for this fight; not a bad training partner if you want to prepare for somebody like Duncan.

Sabatini vs. Almeida
Pat Sabatini, SUB, R2
Almeida proved he belongs in the UFC in his last fight but he's going to need to top that stellar performance with an even better one if he wants his hand raised here. He obviously will want to keep the fight on the feet but once Sabatini gets him down he's in trouble. Almeida is a black belt but he's not on Pat's level and while his last win was crazy impressive, the result over shadows the fact that he was getting rocked in that fight. If Pat can't find a TD relatively early he could be in serious trouble though, because Almeida's offensive striking is really good. Defensively he leaves a lot to be desired because he's very hittable but this is not somebody you want to be standing with for long periods of time. Probably the 2nd or 3rd closest fight on the card for me besides Motta/Torres and the main event.

Motta vs. Torres
Manuel Torres, TKO, R2
Arguably the closest on the card. I think the longer this fight goes on the better it is for Motta but Torres is in "set and forget" territory for me until further notice. His finishing ability is scary. I think he gets Motta out of there late 2nd round. The worry is that if he burns too hot, too fast that Motta can take over as this fight progresses. Both guys are very good boxers but Torres has the volume, length and power advantage here.

Salikhov vs. Dalby
Muslim Salikhov, DEC
Dalby will probably make this close with volume but Salikhov is such a better striker than him it's not even funny.

Flick vs. Costa
Alessandro Costa, TKO, R1
Murder.

Kang vs. Quiñonez
Kyung Ho Kang, DEC
Savvy vet performance. I see Kang keeping Quinonez off his feet and just being a step ahead. Kang showed some uncharacteristically active and clean striking in his last fight, which I don't think he'll rely on as heavily here but could be a factor in helping him get the win. Quinoez has great power and throws interesting strikes because he has sort of an awkward stance, but it works for him. I just don't see him catching Kang.

Hernandez vs. Bondar
Carlos Hernandez, TKO, R2
I personally am not super impressed by either guy but Bondar seems to rely heavily on mixing in his grappling where as Hernandez is a better striker and overall more well rounded. Bondar is going to have to show me something before I take him in a UFC fight cause it's just not there in the tape I've seen. Too many panic takedowns for my liking.

Argueta and Lawrence is one I might take to the scales. I forgot Lawrence had such a bad weight cut once they had to pull him from a fight last second. Unless he looks like an absolute zombie I probably won't be switching my pick, but just food for thought.

@DamienHandel420
Interesting. He definitely has a shot, if the fight goes like the Dolidze vs Vettori fight Jared will probably have more success than Dolidze did. I just don't trust him to show urgency and actually do it. But like I said maybe he will wake up here

Because if Jared tries to coast and clinch, Marvin absolutely won't indulge him like even Izzy did. Just not his style, he pushes the pace

Lawrence vs. Argueta
Daniel Argueta, DEC
IGNORE PROPS. Despite his match with Jackson (at 145, not his usual weight class, short notice, much bigger guy), Argueta is very game (wrestler with sprawls, with defensive submission game, boxing) and durable. I think there is a misconception in seeing Lawrence as a chain wrestler and people maybe expecting to gamrot this guy, but his lack of defensive wrestling especially against other wrestlers is where Argueta can take advantage. Going with the dog at 2.5 provided that Argueta utilizes a smart gameplan (i.e. keep fight close quarters, heavy output wrestling, good cardio).

So nothing dramatic happened at the weigh ins. I still consider it a slight failure to weigh in 1 hour later than allowed if you have to cut (doesn't necessarily apply to heavyweights). Noone that looked really bad though in this one.
Even Jimmy Flick looked less than an Auschwitz survivor than usual.

I personally don't think that Motta is all that great. Torres looked impressive in his last performance despite facing someone that wasn't too particularly good himself. I think Torres has a lot of potential and skill, so I have to choose him

Predictions: 4 of 12 Winners, 1 Perfect, 240 Points   |   Tied for 3755th

Vettori vs. Cannonier
Marvin Vettori, SUB, R3
Rear Naked Choke, Marvin really tries to grapple here, avoiding bombs even though he will walk right through the ones that connect imo. A good fight for both and maybe 1-1 going into 3. I think Vettori makes it a point to finish an aging top contender before the championship rounds, putting his name back in title contention.

Tsarukyan vs. Silva
Arman Tsarukyan, SUB, R1
This should be a quick finish...RNC in the first round.

Duncan vs. Petrosyan
Christian Leroy Duncan, TKO, R1
My "Lock" #2. I think CLD Picks apart Petrosyan, while counter fighting. He lands huge bombs, Headkicks from both angles. His cross', and jabs land and Sit's Armen backwards. Ref steps in after a wild finish.

Sabatini vs. Almeida
Lucas Almeida, DEC
30-27,29-28x2 UNI Dec. I think Lucas really takes it to him from the start of the fight, and Sabatini struggles trying to regain that momentum.

Motta vs. Torres
Nikolas Motta, TKO, R2
TKO finish in a wild fight, I think both fighters get hurt in this one. Elbow lands in clinch, and Torres fades on the fence, Ref steps in as soon as he starts to defenselessly limp.

Salikhov vs. Dalby
Nicolas Dalby, TKO, R3
I think Dalby goes into round 3 at least 1-1 on 2 scorecards which is a solid look. I think MS wants to end this fight and ends up being a little over-aggressive against a very dangerous Dalby and gets KO'd because of it. Headkick to Punches.

Flick vs. Costa
Alessandro Costa, TKO, R1
Lock of the card for me so far(from the bottom). Costa gameplans this to a Tee, stifling Flick's early TD attempts and finally catching him with a knee in round 1. TKO finish.

Kang vs. Quiñonez
Cristian Quiñonez, DEC
I could really see Kyung squeaking this one out. I'm leaning Christian almost finishing Kang though stamping a uni decision win. 29-28x3.

Hernandez vs. Bondar
Denys Bondar, TKO, R2
I think It will take a bit to get used to the speed of the cage, that's the only reason it leaves round 1. Bondar by TKO from ground n pound.

Bledá vs. Fernandes
Tereza Bledá, DEC
Scary rebound for Tereza and it's a good outing for Gabi. 29-28x2, 28-29 Split Dec.

Lawrence vs. Argueta
Daniel Argueta, DEC
29-28x3 Uni. Real good fight both on paper, and will be in the cage.

Bukauskas vs. Pauga
Zac Pauga, DEC
Split, tough fight...slow and prodding but Zac comes ready to grind. 29-28 correct. 30-27,29-28, 28-29.

Zhumagulov is two splits away from being 7-3 in his last 10 fights with wins over Nam, Ulanbekov, and Bagautinov. Two of his losses are to top 7 fighters and he's only been finished once.

In reality, he's .500 in his last 10, 1-5 in the UFC with his only win coming over a guy who went 0-4 in the promotion. He's had 5 fights cancelled and 3 of them were arguably favorable matchups for him. MMA is a wild sport.

UFC is definitely throwing him a bone next week for continually showing up, making weight and never saying no to a fight.

That's a bit too much of a general statement in my opinion. It all depends on which fighter and which record we're talking about.
