UFC Fight Night Dern vs Xianon - Predictions, Fight Analysis and Betting Tips (UFC Vegas 61)
Really interested to see what kind of accent Dern comes into this fight with, her accent is the equivalent of Chito Vera's appearance - changes every fight. I actually think this is an interesting fight, Yan's speed and timing on the feet will give Dern issues given how uncomfortable Dern is on the feet. Both ladies start quickly so I don't expect much of a feeling out process. I hope Dern works off the jab and just slows down on the feet, she tries to rush engagements and leads with her head and it's a terrible habit, if Yan can stick and move she will have a lot of success. The way Esparza dealt so easily on the ground with Yan is a huge red flag, yes Dern doesn't have anywhere near the level of wrestling that Esparza does but Dern is so comfortable jumping guard, I find it really difficult to see a world in which this doesn't hit the canvas at some point and when it does I think Dern will really shine here - Mackenzie Dern via Submission Round 2.
Randy Brown vs Francisco Trinaldo:
I love this matchup too, in terms of veterans Trinaldo is really defying the age barrier in his career. Brown is exciting to watch, very well rounded but defensively he scares the **** out of me. He has a lot of head movement but it is VERY irresponsible head movement, instead of little slip movements, it's very accentuated movements low and i really can see him getting Aljamain Sterling'd at some point against an intelligent striker ie. fake the cross and throw the body kick. The in-betweens is where I really fear for Brown in this fight. In saying that, I think Brown has far more variety of strikes, better speed and really underrated offensive wrestling which I hope he employs here. Good matchup, I think Brown has more tools to victory but I wouldn't be surprised if Trinaldo clips him. If you're betting Brown, I think it will be a scary watch - Randy Brown via UD.
Krystof Jotko vs Brendan Allen:
I am ashamed by how intriguing I found this matchup. We know how Jotko operates - death, taxes and Jotko by Decision. Both of these guys are kind of similar to me in that they are both quite well rounded but not excellent anywhere. On the feet, I actually think Jotko will worry Allen a little with his straight shots, specifically his cross given it will be SP v OD stances. I think Allen's competency with wrestling and on the ground will be enough to compete with Jotko's boring smothering style for the most part. I never know what I am going to get with Allen, he is young and can have plenty of improvement but for right now I am going to go with the more known commodity - Krystof Jotko via UD.

Mackenzie Dern, SUB, R2
Mackenzie is the most one dimensional fighter since Ronda. It’s actually so embarrassing to see her strike on the feet and even worse to see her lay in guard for an entire round. But at the end of the day she’s a really good jiu jitsu specialist and Yan is on her way out the door, nice little leverage spot for Dern to get back into the spotlight with fans.
