Britt vs. St. Preux Wiki

The fourth televised bout and co-main event of Strikeforce Challengers 12 matched up Ovince St. Preux against Antwain Britt. St. Preux came in 1-0 in Strikeforce competition while Britt was 1-1.

St. Preux threw a kick to the midsection and then accidentally poked Britt in the eye at the exact same moment. The action was paused, coming on the heels of a disappointing eye-poke no-contest in the evening's prior bout between Waachiim Spiritwolf and Marius Zaromskis. Britt was able to continue and the fight resumed. Britt waded in with looping power punches while St. Preux used his reach advantage to strike from a distance. The fight was evenly matched until St. Preux landed a pair of crushing kicks to the midsection that left Britt reeling. St. Preux attacked the turtled Britt with strikes and then transitioned to a rare calf-slicer in an attempt to elicit a tapout. Britt had a pained look on his face but survived the round.

Britt shot in with a double-leg takedown to begin round two, bringing St. Preux to the mat but soon being reversed and back to the feet. Another takedown from Britt left him in half-guard throwing short punches to the body and head. Britt poured on the ground and pound attack for the remainder of the round, with St. Preux looking too tired to escape the bottom position.

St. Preux managed to sprawl out of Britt's first takedown attempt in round three, reversing his stockier opponent and gaining full mount. Britt regained guard, yet with the fight even at a round apiece needed to find an escape. Referee Houston Dorr broke the fighters up with 45 seconds remaining, but St. Preux immediately landed a knee and brought the fight back to the ground to control the remaining time on the clock.

All three judges scored the fight 29-28 for Ovince St. Preux. Commenting to Mauro Ranallo in the post-fight interview, "I knew coming into the fight Antwain was going to be a tough opponent and it showed. It was pick and move, pick and move, pick and move," said St. Preux.
