I saw a picture that looked almost unhealthy. Like all skin bones muscle and sinew, no fat at all. Like he had a wasting disease. Might have been the lighting.

I know the photo you’re talking about, there was a filter on it as well which showed the definition more. Hopefully he doesn’t gas out in the fight. At the same time tho, if he is that shredded this close out, he likely didn’t cut that much weight

@AyyLmaonnaise
Hooper was just a kid back then. He's starting to grow into his body and get stronger now, that's why he moved up to 155. I still agree his takedowns suck, but using Peterson and Barrett as an example is outdated

I have a bet on Goff which I regret because I knew at the time of it that it's a bad matchup stylistically for him and I'm trying to stay away from those unless lines are very favorable. However I did also feel Waters is extremely untested having never fought anyone that posed a challenge for him.
Now I have a bad track record with Waters because I thought Quinlan might take it to him and then Quinlan employed his tactic of looking at Waters while the latter jabs him in the face for 15 minutes.

I'm not anxious about that fight scenario at least. Goff will test Waters in terms of attempting to walk through anything thrown his way and put it on him with body punches, grappling etc. So at least he'll fight for my money unlike Quinlan.

@devin he’s still a kid now, he’s not even 25 yet. The reason he moved to 155 is because hooper walks around like 180-85 lbs and the cut was draining him. I think it’s valid to mention his fights at 145, because he hasn’t looked like he’s gained any muscle mass nor has he fought someone who can actively defend takedowns since moving up. He got taken down pretty easily against fiore (who should not have been in the ufc) and similarly went 1/10 on takedowns. Then we can’t put much weight into the leavitt fight because leavitt willingly played bjj with hooper. He hasn’t shown me any improvements to make me believe he can get this fight down. I said it earlier, but if he wants to have a chance he needs to shoot in the opening seconds of the round, or else slava is going to get his hands going & hooper will be gone by then

Hooper just hasn't got the strength and technique to get the takedown easily.

Joaquin Buckley vs Nursulton Ruziboev

Predictions: 1 of 1 Winners, 1 Perfect, 75 Points   |   Tied for 5147th

Advantages:

Buckley
  • Movement
  • Explosivity
  • Striking Defense
  • Experience
  • Pressure

Ruziboev
  • Size
  • Range
  • Submissions
  • Timing

Prediction: Buckley wins by Unanimous Decision

This fight will be won based on either Buckley's use of heavy pressure and strong defense or Ruziboev controlling the range and well-timed strikes. Buckley has been steadily improving his striking defense overtime so I don't see Ruziboev landing anything clean but if Buckley isn't precise in timing his TDs that could be hole to be exploited. Ruziboev's size will be heavy advantage and I've seen Buckley struggle with tall, patient strikers in the past. The main thing that has me unconvinced with Ruziboev is the strength of his record which seems to be heavily padded with Cans. Buckley's shown a lot of good improvement since moving to Welterweight and against much tougher competition so I'm more confident in his ability at this level.
