I went back all the way to the 20th page and didn't see anyone who started a thread about movies. If there is one, just let this thread sink away into the abyss of thread history, but if not, this is something we can talk about. We've got one for every sport, music, and TV shows. So I figured might as well.

Saw Batman v Superman.

Had major problems, but I'm glad I went in with low expectations because I thought aspects of it were great.

7/10 for me.

Saw "Everybody Wants Some!!" yesterday. It was very Linklater.  It is essentially "Dazed and Confused" with less compelling characters.  It has a few moments where I chuckled mainly when they get competitive with eachother,  but overall I felt was rather dull. If you are into plotless movies about a bunch of Bros hanging out for a weekend then this may be up your alley however it didn't do much for me.

Watched "Hardcore Henry" today. I left the theater a little nauseous with a headache and my eyes hurt from being strained.  This movie is pure unadulterated chaos and like watching a video game with a poorly written narrative.  I personally got tired of it after a while but if you are the type to watch other people play FPS games then.this is for you

Seems like Linklater was trying too hard to make an eighties version of Dazed and Confused.

Yeah he kind of was. It was also 1980 which is just barely the 80's. Carter was still in office. So everything is really more 70's influenced. When someone says 80's to me I think big feathered hair, mullets, hair metal, new wave,  shoulder pads, regonomics, yuppies, etc. I don't think Bellbottoms and disco.

Watched "Criminal" over the weekend.  There are some good violent action scenes but the plot is beyond stupid. The whole hacker takes control of the US nuclear launch system is becoming tired. The film is also poorly paced and starts to drag.

Also saw "The Jungle Book" which is a beautiful film with some amazing CGI. It is an excited adventure film with great voice work and a lot of little easter eggs.

Jungle Book was incredible.

The rare film worth checking out in IMAX 3D. Loved all of the voice acting and the effects were amazing. Was also pleasantly surprised by the intensity of the story. Kept it pretty close to the Kipling book, violence, tragedy and all.

Also, Shere Khan vs. goddamn everyone was amazing.

9/10

This week I watched "Barbershop: The Next Cut" which is good but feels a bit too much after school special. They have a message and it's heavy handed and overshadows whatever comedy there is.

"Midnight Special" which is a sci-fi drama. It's decent but I wasn't wowed by it. There were times that it was just flat out boring. For me it was a noticeable step down from Jeff Nichols previous film "Mud"

"Huntsman Winter's War" Basic fun fantasy fluff nothing too deep or really ultimately compelling but the visuals are quite good and there are some fun action sequences.

Wouldn't highly recommend any of these but also didn't hate sitting through any of them either.

We watched THX not that long ago.  It was Encore or Showtime I can't remember which. It's a somewhat interesting movie but I really didn't enjoy it that much. Though apparently the version they played was the remastered cut. George Lucas gave it a bit of the Star Wars treatment.  The scene towards the end in the tunnel. In the original cut the creatures in the tunnels are dwarves but Lucas thought that might be too offensive now so he digitally overlayed some creatures over the actors.

That is why directors do not make classic movies anymore:they are afraid they might offend someone.

You know sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. Even though many movies have social,  political,  or religious commentary and symbolism sometimes a movie is just a movie.
