Jones vs. Peterson Wiki Update Wiki

Peterson and Jones took to the cage for a featured featherweight preliminary bout following the main card.

Both fighters struck from range to start the bout until Peterson caught a kick and got a trip takedown. Jones scrambled to his feet and took Peterson down, then stood and allowed the bout to return to its feet. Jones tripped Peterson again and worked his legs with kicks then stuffed a takedown on the feet. A low blow cause a halt to the contest, and on the restart Jones continued to get the better of the clinching and wrestling game.

Jones chased Peterson around the cage in the second then landed a takedown before standing again, weary of Peterson's submissions. The action on the feet was somewhat uneventful, with neither fighter landing cleanly although both stayed active throughout the round.

Jones was the busier striker in the third round, varying between one-off kicks and punches, but neither fighter could find their range effectively or put solid combos together in the early going. A nice right cross landed for Jones and another trip takedown. Jones let Peterson up then secured another takedown, but Peterson reversed the position and took control from Jones's back against the cage. Peterson worked for a choke after getting his hooks in but Jones battled out of the hold and took the top position before landing some strikes on the feet before the bell.

The judges scored the bout 29-28 Jones, 30-27 Peterson, 29-28 Jones, giving him the Split Decision win.
