Chris Curtis' TDD stats are really fooling y'all. Did anyone watch the Viera fight? He was telegraphing blast double leg takedowns, starting from across the ring, breathing like James Gandolfini, with no chaining. He was just running at Curtis. All Curtis had to do was get a single underhook to completely defend the attempt.
Both the Allen and Hawes fights were pure boxing matches. Hawes, the only wrestler we've seen Curtis face in the UFC, feinted 2-3 level changes as part of the striking. They counted as attempts, but it was just to give a different look. He released as soon as he closed the distance.

I don't know why y'all are bashing Chris Curtis for beating one of the best grapplers in the UFC. The dude (Viera) has a cardio problem, but he clearly had been working on it and looked better his last two appearances. I think there's a good chance that Curtis knocks out Hermansson b/c dude hits hard af and is well rounded. Also, bashing his win against Hawes makes no sense. Hawes probably beats at least everyone outside of the top 10 when he puts it all together.

I dont see anyone bashing, but I think some perspective is needed. Viera got outgrappled by Fluffy. It's important to put that context back in.
Guys like Viera and Brendan Allen have skills on the ground, but they're not very good at forcing the fight there. And their standup leaves something to be desired. So unless they end up in a scramble, they're exploitable. Jack Hermansson is better than both at engaging in grappling and creating his own advantages.

Viera did not get outgrappled by Fluffy. Viera gassed out and literally couldn't do anything and Fluffy decided to grapple with him, but Fluffy literally could've submitted or knocked him out at that point.

So did Allen. Maybe the theme is if you would lose to Fluffy you will lose to Action Man.
Confirmed Fluffy Hernandez = Chris Curtis.

"Viera gassed out and literally couldn't do anything and Fluffy decided to grapple with him, but Fluffy literally could've submitted or knocked him out at that point."
Are you still arguing in *favor* of Viera's skills or did you switch sides? Because thats harsher phrasing than I was using.

No I'm saying that he had a serious cardio problem at the time, but his skills are still better than everyone when he's 100% there. Also he has worked on his cardio and looked a lot better since and was a dangerous fighter against Curtis b/c he has worked on his cardio.

His cardio did NOT look good in the Curtis fight. He didn't get pity choked by a guy named Fluffy, so that's an improvement I guess. But he was still absolutely spent after one round, and looked like he was dying by the time the final bell rang.

I feel very confident in saying that at 33, struggling at the Fluffy Hernandez level, showing horrible cardio, openly considering retirement between fights, and treating a win over Stolzfus like the Super Bowl, Rodolfo Viera is simply not going to be an elite UFC fighter.
And because of that fact, I would advise not letting his 20 defended takedowns make Curtis seem like a high level wrestler.

Jack Hermansson would look like Muhammad Ali against Rodolfo Viera. Viera has footwork?? I will Venmo you $50 right now if you can find me a clip of even just a second of proper footwork.

Anything from not even being able to fight after one round is major improvement, and he definitely had the energy to submit Curtis in the 3rd round if Curtis made a gigantic mistake which is a huge improvement from not being able to fight at all. Also, stating that Hermansson looking like Ali against anyone is a very bold statement for you to make. He is competent on the feet and can knock people out, but his boxing isn't anything special and Viera is very competent on the feet for a very heavy grappler.

Again, you're celebrating having enough energy to make it out of the first round of a fight you're winning. Why are we setting the bar so low?
