I'll post what's happening as it comes through for purposes of posterity. Doubt the veracity of what is posted here. Having lived through the Iraq war, I am sure that the vast majority of what gets reported will turn out to be either misinformation or outright ********. Posting because a lot of non-Australia members will be asleep, now. I'll report as much as I can.

So far the g****vine is:

Russia has indeed embarked on a full scale invasion of Ukraine. Air attacks, and ground forces. There has been at least one missile strike, there have been front-line Ukranian casualities ( have seen video, cannot post it here, too graphic).

Footage of an airstrike hitting Lutsk:

https://twitter.com/Conflicts/status/1496721271907889155?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1496721271907889155%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fpatriots.win%2Fnew

Belarus has thrown in with Russia/is issuing support.
Reports of Ukrainian air defence having shot down multiple Russian planes, either drones or fighters.

Gobaz the reason America has done this is simple.

Now, there's no point in Germany or any EU states making an agreement with Russia. The US has yet again interfered in the sovereignty of other nations, because that's what it does to 'defend its interests'. Basically, the nordstream pipes are lifelines to Europe. The US wilfully destroyed them so that there's now virtually no possibility of Europe negotiating with Russia at all, because there is no pragmatic nor practical reason to do so. The US has, without consent, removed Europe's autonomy in the conflict--mostly because it's not their backyard, and they could give a **** so long as they get their wishes. We will now enter the usual disinfiormation cycle bolstered by facebook and US/EU MSM who will try to convince us all that Russia self-sabotaged.

Support for the war in Ukraine has been waning, fast. Many EU parliamentarians have been voicing the need for a diplomatic solution. Now that won't happen. Especially because Europe now has to get its energy from US-sanctioned sources. The US now has leverage over what Europe does, politically, through energy control.

All this is going to do is make millions of Europeans suffer and hate America more than they already do.  It's incredibly misguided and absolutely ******* insane, on top of being indescribably evil. They have effectively doomed Europe. It will decimate the European economy. Hundreds of thousands of people will likely die from starvation and from elemental exposure.

I cannot remember the last time I saw something as bad as this. This isn't an arm-twisting. It's outright strong arming and extortion. This is basically just more proof of what I have always known; America will stop at nothing to get what it wants, regardless of the cost, including the destruction of its allies.

Post-Cold War American foreign policy has destroyed far more countries than it has helped. Iraq is an Iran proxy, Afghanistan is under total Taliban control, Libya is an open air slave market, Syria and Ukraine are destabilized for many years to come. If the neo-lib foreign policy hegemony is every displaced (unlikely IMO), then American policymakers will have to re-learn how to use soft power, how to make pragmatic alliances, and how to avoid unnecessarily interfering in another power's sphere of influence.

Russia will have to retaliate.

Let's see how much people support this ongoing conflict if Vlad snips the transatlantic net cable in half.

"The strongest possible response" probably means "we'll tweet out a stern letter declaring Putin to be a Hitlerian, Trumpian poo poo head *********." They won't attack Russia because that would be stupid and lead to nuclear war, and they've already maxed out sanctions, so what else could it mean.

Just a little shorter in the sauna, and don't make the pool too hot. It's not all that complicated.

The Europeans may hate the USA but that's because Trump was right about the dependency that he predicted.  Europe is yesterday and they need to accept that.

Optimism is everything

Piet (96, has fought on the Grebbeberg in 1940) and GrĂŠ (95, courier) from Limburg: "We drink ditch water and urinate twice a day on each other, so you get a little warm.",

Kees-Jan and Martine, Park van Luna, Brussels: "We have made rigorous savings on the largest cost item and buried the children (2, 4 and 8) in the garden. We are now burning the click laminate from the children's rooms in such a flowerpot stove, it burns very well, because of all the glue residue we think. No, we will survive" ,

Jos and Carola from Hamburg: "We hung a heat lamp near the thermostat. The heater never switches on again. Ideal." ,

Sander (don't want to say last name) from Naples: "I ordered that GreenChoice rope. Heard really good stories about it. It seems to be durable, so I can use it again next year." ,

Johan from Zurich is not bothered by anything. For 20,000 euros he bought an estate + orchard in Hungary, with a gas storage of 1000 cubic meters in the garden. "Beer is a quarter here, gas two cents, *****s 1.50. I'll make it next summer."

Oh good. Now China and Russia are trading with the Taliban.

'Build back better!'

The Taliban reported that an agreement had been reached with Russia on the supply of goods to the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. As part of the agreement, Afghanistan will annually buy from Russia:

1. 2,000,000 tons of wheat
2. 1,000,000 tons of gasoline
3. 1,000,000 tons of diesel fuel
4. 500,000 tons of LNG

Afghanistan will also receive a discount relative to current world prices.

@el222 don't worry bro. Cornpop's got this.

Jackie Walorski died in August. He actually made a statement about her death. He doesn't even remember. That's the level of brain-addled decrepitude at the helm right now.

Can someone explain to me  why the successful Ukrainian counteroffensive, which supposedly resulted in Ukraine taking back more territory than Russia has annexed since the conflict began, included referendums of those very same territories orchestrated by Russia under Russian control and resulted in their peoples voting to join the Russian Federation?

Asking for a friend.
