true I guess but hes gotta develop other aspects of the game. you cant survive on just bjj alone now (unless you're a Gracie or the Renzo Gracie Philly guys)

@Reynolds true, but you have to ask why Allen didn't shoot on him and kept it standing.  And yes, his striking is awful.

Brundage won the third. Cut him open with  a downward elbow while Maximov had him around the hips. That was the only good shot landed in the entire fight. Brundage didn't actually wobble him, he got caught on the hands dipping into a double and got knocked back, but that was a momentum thing as opposed to a concussive thing.

Here's what I think:

Would the brundage fight have looked different if Brundage had been a slightly better wrestler? Yes. Is Soriano a slightly better wrestler? Yes. He's probably a significantly better wrestler. Is he a better striker? Yes. Does Soriano have better anti-wrestling? Yes.

Maximov should be the dog he is, and no he isn't a good bet.

The truth is we just don't know yet. This is kind of the fight everybody needs to find out where he's at.

@Reynolds he could win. It depends what happens in R1. If it's a real grapplegrind I can see Soriano burning his tank and getting taken over, dropping a dec. I'm pretty sure he cuts a lot of weight to make the division.

That's a big if though and it requires Maximov to either win the wrestling/grappling exchanges or at least not find himself on the bottom or in mount, because if he does he won't force Soriano to burn his gastank. And he will probably get finished.

Puna has a really slick and nasty power straight left. It crosses a very surprising amount of distance due to the way he slides into it, and I've seen fighters with better striking defence than Maximov caught out by it.

For those saying Maximov is a live dog, I agree 100%. Didn't put it on here because of obvious reasons such as doubt. Just rather pick em and be right. Young , hungry , gritty , trains with the Diaz brothers , BJJ background , solid chin . Am I betting on him? No. But I will be picking him to win.

its a test for both fighters. Puna got out worked out struck by a grappler his last fight (allen) , maximov off a decent debut win gets a step up in competition and a chance to prove his overall skillset. the diazs are hugely beneficial for maximov. any real fighter would laugh in your face for saying otherwise
