Been thinking about MMA a lot during the quarantine, and I got to thinking about Kamaru Usman. I was wondering, who can beat him? Strikers like Masvidal and Edwards would more than likely get grapple-******, BJJ practitioners like RDA and Maia were handled easily, whats it gonna take to beat him? The only people I can see beating him are Colby and Gilbert Burns. Gilbert could do it because he is a consummate grappler with very good stand-up which may be a winning combo against Usman.

Who do you guys think might beat him?

UFC rankings are generated by a group of journalists. Who are these journalists? They don't tell us anymore.

I think the highlight for me was the time McGregor moved up the rankings after losing to Nate Diaz. Maybe that's just calculus of such rare and exquisite genius that it's beyond the scope of my comprehension. Maybe I'm just  a starling trying to **** its own image reflected in a window. Maybe these guys should be calculating rocket trajectories.

I stick with fight matrix

It’s computerized, it’s not perfect but it’s unbiased

IDK about fight matrix, just looking at their LHW rankings right now. Bader at #2? really? Dom Reyes is down at #8. I guess computerized is better than most, you want some awful rankings check out MMAJunkie

I agree about going with fightmatrix for rankings. Of course Reyes is going to be underrated because the algorithm doesn't know that in the eyes of most people Reyes won  that fight against Jones, it treats it as just another UD.

Also the thing I noticed is that one good way of testing if you should listen to anything a person says about MMA is asking them what they think about Woodley. It's ok to not be a fan of his but to question his fighting abilities is a sure way of losing all credibility.

Agreed about woodley, stcv. I am definitely not a fan of his, but he is one of the top welterweights without a doubt. The only reason he may slide in my rankings is simply due to inactivity

i dont discredit Woodley either i just cant take his style. Every single fight he backs himself to the cage and throws single bombs in hopes of landing. When they do its highlights. When they dont hes in trouble. His fighting style doesn't coincide with winning rounds. He almost needs a finish every fight and hes getting old. Izzy has been in the UFC for 2 years and has as many fights as Woodley does in his last 6 years. Inactivity age and fighting style all working against him now

One thing I was very excited to see last saturday was to see if Usman cracked the Woodley code. To see if not giving Tyron any chance to breath, constant pressure, was the cheat code to beating him. Still a bit bummed that fight got cancelled

I'm the type of guy to strongly favor finishes over "winning rounds" so what you described is not a problem for me. As for inactivity and age I fully agree and was talking about people that discredit his career.

I honestly have always preferred Tap for rankings. Although FightMetric is one of the only sites I've seen that doesn't automatically lower people massively in the rankings for leaving UFC which is nice, automation can also lead to some real goofy ****.

KTFO

I agree Wood had a good career just think he ducked some fights whined for weeks and months about being hurt then trash talks like a rabid dog.
He lost to Rory bad, he beat some of the best or best known welterweights.
But his ima goat **** makes him a less likable ***n self promoting tool than MCG who has held multiple belts.
Though not defended granted he took from some of the best at the class and time.
MCG would need punches in bunches to stop Usman and he will just take hin down effortlessly unless he lands a haily mary flying knee.
Same deal with Jorge hes a lightweight get the **** over it, glad hes getting famous but he only has power shot chance.
I need to see more of Burns he can win a few ways if hes ready.
All ******** aside we have no idea how Colby will come back from that loss, he could be better or a shell.

I don't think he's the best, but he's definitely up there. On a good night he could definitely beat anyone not named Usman.
