Been thinking about MMA a lot during the quarantine, and I got to thinking about Kamaru Usman. I was wondering, who can beat him? Strikers like Masvidal and Edwards would more than likely get grapple-******, BJJ practitioners like RDA and Maia were handled easily, whats it gonna take to beat him? The only people I can see beating him are Colby and Gilbert Burns. Gilbert could do it because he is a consummate grappler with very good stand-up which may be a winning combo against Usman.

Who do you guys think might beat him?

Usman has all what it takes to make a long road as WW champ. He will probably lose in 3 to 5 years against a younger fighter because the game constantly evolve. It will need and incredible TDD just to give him a fight (like Covington) but having an incredible TDD and being better then Usman in the striking department is not an easy task. I don't see anybody at WW right now. Skillset like Whittaker would be good against Usman

He's got a long list of injuries which will probably prevent him making a super long run.

That's why I thought Burns had a chance. Excellent BJJ with good stand-up, but being a good BJJ practitioner might not be all it takes to stop Usmans wrestling, as he out grappled RDA.

@TWJake

I think Gilbert Burns would have the chance of defeating Kamaru Usman, because he's a powerful striker and he has a great gaurd.

highly aware that wonderboy isnt really anywhere near a title shot anytime soon (possibly ever considering hes like 37)

that being said he's the only person in welterweight right now that i would actually predict to beat usman

i really can't imagine usman outlanding him, knocking him out, or holding him in place

Masvidal has a shot but it's a big ask. Usman will have his head buried in his balls like a gold digger grifting a 90 year old billionaire from the jump.

I actually think a motivated Woodley has the best chance, I still think Usman wins but as for chances Woodley

Unless the ufc can get their hands on Douglas Lima

Wonderboy beated Masivdal easy but he also get Taked down by Woodley. He wont stay a long time on is feat aginst Usman

Lima is the same type of fighter. Very good in the striking department but been out-wrestle by Ben Askren...

I think Douglas Lima could beat Usman... I also believe Douglas Lima is the best Welterweight right now. Maaaan, I'm gonna get 50,000 downvotes for that comment.

But guy's that are in the UFC right now, and could take out Usman.... Lemme think. I just keep thinking Ponzinibbio. I think it's gonna take a buzzsaw of a fighter to literally take him out. Which maybe why I thought Douglas Lima tooo. But I wouldn't count out, (you're gonna hate this answer tooo) a dedicated, & top form Tyron Woodley.

Yeah, I think Burns has a chance and I would personally like to see that. As for the Usman - Masvidal match-up, my bet is Usman by unanimous decision.

Where do people get this idea that Woodley wasn't "dedicated" for the Usman fight? Maybe he was a little too focused on his rap career but that was a one sided domination that took advantage of Woodley's long established issues with cardio and taking rounds off, weaknesses that he showed in basically every single fight he had that went 5 rounds. Add in that Usman is 5 years younger and ****.

Anyway, IDK who beats him right now. It'll probably be someone unexpected in a few years. Covington is probably his equal in skill but Usman has more power so it'll always be a tough matchup for Covington. Burns looks good on paper but just seems to me like another RDA with a limited upside in the division.

IMO its not Lima. Who has he beat to make anyone think hes UFC championship caliber. Rory whos washed up with his head clearly outta the game? MVP who im still not sold on cause he fights no name cans 3 outta every 4 fights? I mean just 2 years ago in Macdonald Lima 1, Rory repeatedly took him down in round 1 3 4 and 5 and held him there mostly the rest of the round once it got there. I think Usman wrestle ****s his way to an EASY dec. there
