PEDs

Well, I guess it's good the NAC has stepped up testing. Good in the long-run anyway.

Lombard certainly failed the eye test for years, but now we have confirmation.

@OUTLAW
Then you might be done with this sport sooner then later, because there good chance Johny is using. GSP seems to think so if you read between the lines of his interviews.

Ben Rothwell's reaction:

Big Ben Rothwell        ✔ @RothwellFighterFollow

My applause goes out to NAC 6wks into 2015 and the sport of MMA is turned on it's head. It's great news , it is. I'm excited

DUDE! Seriously! Does he not remember he got nabbed for elevated T/E levels?? I mean, I know, it's not the same, TRT, blah blah blah, but still, he got caught doing something illegal and served a suspension and now he's passing judgement??

Anyone who's been caught for something or has a chance of getting caught in the future (because, seriouely, they know what they're doing right?), please shut the **** up.

If clean PED free athletes is part of your criteria for enjoying a sport you might want to take up watching Curling and even then I'm not even 100% sure. Because every main stream sport without fail has guys juiced out on PEDs, numbed up with painkillers, bee line focused on stimulants.

For an organization like the UFC that boasts it is the most heavily regulated sports organization in the world, it seems to me that they are doing a really ****** job at regulating its athletes.

What do you mean they catch PED users all the time. If it wasn't regulated noone would ever get caught like in other sports. Regulation doesn't prevent using it simply catches users. I would have to say MMA has done a damn good job at catching users. Fans would actually be happier if it was unregulated. Because we really don't care if they use we only care if they get caught. Pride FC is proof ignorance is bliss because everyone there was using.

At this point I'm just gonna assume 100% of fighters using PED's. My favorite fighters too. **** even Jon Fitch is using. Everyone is on dat juice, hell Dana ******* White and Lorenzo Faketittie are on it. The sport is infected...

I agree @big. I also think that now's a better time than ever to start cracking down harder with the punishments. Clearly the 9 months to 1 year aren't scaring anybody ...

I'd say 2 years first offense for PEDs only (keep the 9 months for weed or non-performance enhancing drugs and elevated levels - because though they're very suggestive, they're not the actual substance - until you get the balls to deal with those kinds of things properly) and the second time you get caught means you just DGAF so **** off and find employment elsewhere. If you were given a warning (as in a 2 year suspension) and STILL kept on doing it, you can't come and cry about losing your income.

If all commissions go by these rules without exceptions and honour each other's suspensions, we may lose a few superstars but I can promise you roiding will go down substantially.

I wouldn't be surprise anymore by anybody.  The thing is, injuries plague these fighters.  Steroids are super powered anti-inflammatories.  With punishment they take, I wouldn't be surprise at all if they all take them.  It's a fine line though between trying to recover from damage and using to enhance your performance and I am sure it is tempting to cross for all of them.

This is being regulated by Americans and American governments, that believe in creating rules and laws that have catchy baseball references. It would have to be "three strikes and you're out" or it wouldn't fly.

I know one thing ... if Conor McGregor tests positive Dana White may shoot himself in the mouth ... dudes who are getting caught now, may be big, may sell but most of them are nearing the ends of their careers or are insignificant in the UFC's grand scheme of things ... Conor is being groomed to be a huge face of the organization ... if Dana loses his new toy he's going to be PISSED!

The UFC might have to do what MLB did when they came under fire for rampant steroid use. Institute random testing and make the suspensions severe. A lot of these guys are able to get juiced up because they know when the tests are coming and for the most part know how to cycle so they don't get caught. Honestly though I don't really think the UFC cares if their athletes are on steroids. In fact if they could get away with it they would probably encourage it.

@p4pgoat  That would be all fine and dandy if the UFC didn't host more than 45 to 50 events a year.  If they start laying down heavy handed suspensions on every person that got popped for steroids like MLB, the UFC would become monumentally ****** as their roster would become stretched even thinner than it already is with fight cards.

@greenhornet or imagine a situation where a lot of these guys cleaned themselves up so they could keep fighting and making money. Some fighters probably only do steroids so they can compete with the other guys that are juicing. They would love to stop but can't because they know they are probably going to fight a guy who is using. Without having that to worry about they can stop themselves.

Right now there is no reason to stop. They know if they're smart they can get away with it so why stop? Instituting random testing and heavy fines/suspensions would be huge incentive to not take illegal substances along with the fact they would be allowed to provide for themselves and their families while doing a sport they love.
