Dana said in the post-event (UFC 157) that you don't wanna accept the fight against Pettis. Is it true?

There is nothing sealed yet, nobody signed any paper. We're waiting the best for us. I didn't talk to Dedé (André Pederneiras, his manager) so I don't know how is the situation. I didn't watch the event last night because I was sleeping so I'm waiting. First I'll talk to Dedé to see how is the situation.

Is there any possibility for you to turn down the fight?

This is too relative, we don't know what is going on. It's a great fight, everyone want to see it but first I have to talk to Dedé.

UFC had put you against Edgar in a superfight and now they want match you against Pettis. Do you agree with all these line-jumpings?

No, I don't. They've created a ranking system just to avoid that, but it isn't working at all because they're pulling people from other divisions. It's just happening in my division, I don't see it happening in the others. Everyone talks about making superfights but it never happens in other divisions. We have to sit down with UFC to find a solution for this case. Why they don't pair Anderson Silva with all the other guys people wanna see him fighting against for years? Since I was from WEC I hear this superfight matchmaking thing. Among featherweights this is becoming so much easier.

Why do you think it's happening only in FW division?

Yeah... (laughs), I don't know whether exists a reason for it but it doesn't matter. Who wants to be the champion doesn't pick opponent or places. We have to be ready anytime and that's what I do. I get ready to give my best.

Do you think other opponents, like Ricardo Lamas, deserve this chance before Pettis?

Who deserves this shot, in first place, is Ricardo Lamas because he beat Erik Koch, who was the next contender. He earned his chance after his victory. Cub Swanson is another fighter who is in a great streak. They are featherweight fighters, who are fighting for a long time for a title shot that never comes since UFC are pulling heavier fighters to fight @ 145lbs. If UFC wants a superfight, I don't see any problem. I fight whoever they choose, but for the belt, it must be against Lamas or Swanson.

So do you believe this fight against Pettis shouldn't be for the title?

In my opinion, no. How can a guy fight for a title if he never fought in the division before? It's unfair with the other guys. I don't say it for myself because I'm the champion and I fight whoever steps up but it's unfair with everyone who is training, winning their fights, thinking about being the champ. Meanwhile, a lightweight fighter asks for the FW title shot and UFC accepts it.

Would Pettis give you the toughest fight of your carrer?

(laughs) I heard this story before when I fought Frankie Edgar and we know what happened. Whoever fights José Aldo has to be very well prepared because I train a lot. Fighting is my life so I'll always train hard to give a good show for the people

@Traeblack now they should fight since Aldo is going against Pettis... Theres no point of a tune up fight of waiting over a year for a title match.... It's a top contenders match and the winner gets him after Pettis.... That is if Aldo defends against Pettis...

@yossgold  lol at the Guida remark, classic.

If the fight's to happen, it should happen at 155...maybe next summer, after both divisions are sorted out.

@Jose Aldo  Yea, we know what happened, Edgar gave you the toughest fight of your career (and on a different night, might have gotten the nod from the judges). Way to dole out the disrespect.

I still don't understand why this is happening in August....So who fights Benson (and, yes, I said Benson because Gil is going to get crushed) in August? Not Pettis. Oh, and thanks for sidelining Jose for fricking 7+ months again. Serious

That's just...rich.....I don't think Aldo should get an immediate shot at the champ at LW either. And how does fighting Pettis at 145 qualify you as the #1 Contender for 155? WHY NOT JUST HAVE THE FREAKING PETTIS FIGHT AT 155?!

Aldo made use of the leverage he has in the UFC. If he wins, he gets an immediate title shot, and a chance to join Randy, and BJ in that elite class of champions.

Whoever voted me down, I'm curious which part you voted down?

Because that's some flat out disrespect by Aldo.

@stealing I don't know about the other person that down voted you, but I did b/c Edgar was most certainly not Aldo's most difficult fight. Edgar didn't do **** in that fight, the only reason anyone gives him any credit is b/c he went the distance and Dana White and Joe Rogan are all over Edgar's nuts.

EDIT: To be clear, I didn't downvote your most recent post.

2nd edit: Also, Jose didn't say Edgar was a bad opponent, he just said that Edgar didn't win after he heard all the talk about how Edgar was the best fighter Aldo had ever faced.

I predicted this happening in a 2013 predictions thread. If Aldo continues to dispose of top 155 lb contenders, why the hell would he not be granted a title shot at 155? He's basically a lightweight fighting at featherweight size wise anyway, and hell, this will be his second fight in a row against a lightweight dropping down and getting an instant title shot at 145. He deserves a shot at Bendo.

I was surprised how much larger he was than Edgar. I knew Edgar was the smaller fighter, but didn't think Aldo would be that much larger.

Looks like I got my wish. The featherweight championship is also to determine the #1 contender at lightweight?

@traeblack You talking like Edgar got knock out by Aldo in the first round. Edgar is still a top featherweight and lightweight contender. Plus Pettis and Aldo is happening so why not put Lemas against Edgar. Edgar is better Koch plus his last three losses has been by decision and one by split decision.

I have to go with Trae on this one. I think Lamas deserves someone coming off of a win, not a loss. I'd like to see them match up Korean Zombie, Ricardo Lamas, or Cub Swanson with each other. The best case scenario there is KZ/Lamas, but Swanson in for either of them would be a justifiable substitute. Heck, give the person excluded in that pairing the Chad Mendes/Glay Guida winner. But I want to see Edgar work his way back up the ladder again.

KZ has been on such a long layoff that you are forced to give the shot to Lamas. Swanson lost to Lamas, so that automatically puts Lamas ahead of him. If they wanted to go ahead and have Pettis and Lamas face each other, I would have no problem with that.

Looking back at it you guys are right. Like amp112 said Lamas already beat Swanson so it wouldn't make that much sense putting them against each other. I think the winner of the Clay/Chad fight should face Lamas and the winner of that fight should get a title shot.

It's like talking about Anderson Silva's next opponent, it's like who gives a **** Anderson's gonna win anyway just make it happen.

Pettis could beat Aldo. Did anyone forget about that one guy who's in possesion of the lw strap? He stands a pretty good chance too.
