@Bill

"He fought like a ***** and a *****.  With his skills, he couldn't keep someone his size and strength in front of him and off his back?  I'm done with him."

I disagree with everything u said on the last page. And just so you know since you love to know who down arrow you, I did on every single post on this last page (edit). Now as for the quote above, you thought they were the same size and strength?  I though Maia looked clearly larger and was deff the stronger of the two.

The fact that Fitch didnt tap with Maia on his back for 15 minutes shows how good Fitch is . If that was GSP he probably would have gone to sleep. Now GSP probably wouldnt lets Maia on his back but still i saw great fortitude from Fitch in that fight and after the fight he put on with a rising prospect in Silva im almost excited to see what he will do in his next fight.

@Bill, some members are getting on you b/c of how vehemently you tried to get all of us on the Fitch wagaon, only to abandon ship once he lost to a better grappler.  You have to see the hypocrisy in that.  I'm a huge Rich Franklin fan & will support him no matter what.. even if he gets his head knocked off by Cung.  You aren't a loyal, faithful fan boss and it shows a character flaw is all.  He lost.  So what?

Yea Kalibo is right. Why disown Fitch just because he lost. When D1/ADCC Maia shows up, there is a good chance that he will win the fight. Why not just say "Fitch didnt win this one, but he is still my boy, wish him the best of luck on his next fight".

@Bill .. no I'm not making anything 'personal' so I don't know what you're talking about. Also, yes .. trust me, I can handle this thread. In the last 2 pages you have defined what I hate about a good chunk of 'MMA fans'. You jumped all over the Fitch bandwagon after he beat Silva .. you were all over it, you even made a dumbass thread about it. But now since he lost to a far superior grappler you just abandon Fitch and even go as far as saying he fought like a *****? Thats pathetic. You just look at the fact he lost and like most stereotypical MMA fans you jump ship.

Rather then looking at the fact that even in defeat Jon Fitch lasted damn near 15 minutes with Maia on his back .. that is quite a big achievement. Demian Maia is on another level compared to just about every person on the planet when it comes to BJJ and grappling .. Maia couldn't sub Fitch. That is big. But you just look past that and see it as a loss and think he fought like a ***** when realistically he used probably the best defensive grappling/jiu jitsu I've seen in a lonngg time.

Keep in mind, I wasn't a Fitch fan before the Silva fight, I wasn't a Fitch fan after the Silva fight, and I wasn't a Fitch fan before the Maia fight (I'm a big fan of Maia), but guess what .. Fitch may have lost, but he earned a new fan last night in me with ridiculous submission defense against a guy like Maia. That is how any real MMA fan would look at the situation.

The fight went about as I was expecting - with Maia dominating, but unable to break Fitch's defence and finish. Well, I also thought Fitch would manage to stage a comeback in the final round and maybe steal it, but that didn't happen.

Calling Fitch a "*****" and bringing up a size is completely out of whack here. He did as well as anyone could - he managed to fight off the ADCC Maia for full 15 minutes and could probably go 10 more. This is Demian Maia we're talking about. The guy tapped 5 Middleweights in a row (3 in the first round), went full 3 rounds with the current Middlewight contender Weidman and in his last outing nearly unscrewed Rick Story's (who's walking around at 200) head. Literally.

I think the insurgence of K-1 Maia (RIP) made some people forget how good he really is at what he does (when he's actually doing it).

i think he should not abandon Fitch, but the image he had of Fitch.
Seems like he thought Fitch was the best fighter in the world and he didn't get credit because of his style.
And he had 'just barely' lost to GSP and should have gotten another shot because he would be the toughest challenge. If i remember correctly @Bill said Fitch was his #2 ranked welterweight even after the Hendricks fight.

@Bill You should abandon this imaginary Jon Fitch, but you shouldnt abandon the real Fitch. The guy who's a very good fighter, but is not messiah.

Bill all I did was make an observation.  Not really sure how I hijacked the thread.  You did a good enough job of making the thread about you so that nobody else needed to.

Demian Maia is a massive monster at welterweight. I definitely did not expect him to take Jon Fitch down at will like that. An excellent display of grappling and wrestling by Maia. I have always said that the scariest matchup for Jon Fitch other than GSP is Demian Maia because Maia is the antithesis of Jon Fitch's style, and he showed that.

Jon Fitch has earned some respect from people from this fight with his excellent grappling defense. He defended extremely dominant positions for 13+ minutes against the best jiu-jitsu practitioner in mixed martial arts history. Jon Fitch may not be the number 2 welterweight anymore but he will go down as having the best defense in UFC history, no doubt about that.

Do I believe Jon Fitch is still an elite welterweight? Yes, of course. Do I believe that he is the second best welterweight on planet Earth? No, I do not. And that's ok. I will still enjoy Jon Fitch fights because I love watching Jon Fitch fight, plain and simple. He is a stand up human being, an excellent role model and a legend of the sport. Thank you Jon Fitch and congratulations to Demian Maia.

Bill Burgess and I are allies no more. He has recently revealed questionable opinions on certain topics but now there is no question, he is an idiot, a ******* and he is useless. Bill Burgess has chosen to ditch Jon Fitch because he himself has been abandoned so many times. He is remarkably immature and has absolutely nothing knowledgeable to contribute on these forums. **** Bill Burgess.
