Gomez vs. Pineda Wiki Update Wiki

The co-main event of Legacy Fighting Championship 7 featured Frank Gomez taking on Daniel Pineda for the organization's featherweight championship. Pineda was the defending champion.

Gomez opened the bout with a flicking high kick and then clinched up with Pineda. The fighters hit the ground in an awkward position with Pineda searching for a submission and Gomez scrambling into top position, then passing to half-guard. Gomez delivered a big elbow to the right side of Pineda's face, breaking a cut open and forcing blood to stream out immediately. Pineda attacked for a kneebar in a surprising sequence and appeared to have Gomez in trouble for a moment before losing the submission. On the feet Pineda pushed Gomez against the fence. Pineda looked for single strikes and landed a few of them in the final minute.

Early in round two Gomez came forward with a flying knee that landed nicely but also gave Pineda an opening to take the fight down to the mat. Gomez was active off of his back. Pineda worked hard to pass guard, getting to half guard and then side control until a beautiful sweep from Gomez. Pineda's ground skills were again on display as he attacked for another kneebar and in the following scramble was again in top position. On the feet and the cut on Pineda's right eye no longer appeared to be a problem in what was a close and competitive fight.

Daniel Pineda was the aggressor early in the third, backing down Gomez with punches and kicks. Pineda took the back of Gomez after a struggle for position, and he unloaded with punches to the side of the head. With perfect timing Pineda snuck his forearm under the chin and tied on a rear naked choke, forcing the quick tapout from the challenger Frank Gomez.

The winner via round three rear naked choke at 2:25, and still the Legacy FC featherweight champion, Daniel Pineda. Speaking to Frank Trigg in the post-fight interview, Pineda commented, "He got me good man [with the elbow], I was like oh sh*t I can't see... I was just learning that [choke technique]... I just got my purple belt."
