Making an NHL only thread, because I'm sick of seeing the Peyton Manning thread riddled with hockey talk.

So fellow Canadians, REJOICE!

EDIT: And Americans too, we know some of you love hockey as well.

This is in my opinion the sickest goalie goal I've ever seen. I like how quickly Mike Smith quickly catches it, drops it and shoots it while he's still in the net for the hockey equivalent of a buzzer beater. This beats Jose Theodore's backhand in my eyes.

Also, Mike Smith has more goals this season than Nail Yakupov and Claude Giroux combined...ha.

This picture is a lot funnier when you realize that Roberto Luongo was in the net when Rick Nash scored. If you think this was just accidental, here is Exhibit B:

Poor Lou.

I got to go to the Wings/Leafs alumni games in Detroit today. Pretty cool seeing all the guys i grew up watching play together again. It was super cold, but I still had a good time. Winter Classic should be fun to watch tomorrow too.

I was amused at how the number 1 defenseman at the Alumni game would be able to be the number 1 defenseman for either the Wings or the Leafs.

If Daniel Alfredsson gets in the Hall of Fame, someone needs to get shot.

The Hall should be for the best players, not the good ones who had a couple of great seasons.

Alfredsson was a top 10 player in the league for 3 seasons. While he was a great player for a long time, he was only elite for a couple of seasons. He never won a Stanley Cup (remember how he tried to call a Stanley Cup win Messier-style and then failed? Hilarious) and he's never won a major award.

Just for comparison's sake, Roenick isn't in the hall so why should Alfredsson be there? How about Phil Housley? Personally, I think Eric Lindros deserves to be in more than Alfredsson.

As for the facts you bring up, how many ******* players have played 1000 games? There's a near 100 that have scored 1000 points too. The guy hasn't even scored 500 goals yet. Other than that gold medal, Alfredsson has no claim to getting into the Hockey Hall of Fame.

But of course, it's the ******* Hockey Hall of Fame so he'll probably get in on his second or third ballot. The ******* place should be renamed the Hockey Hall of Good Players.

EDIT: Oh yeah here's another guy I forgot, how about BERNIE ******* NICHOLLS?

Okay seeing as you actually gave me a good answer, let's discuss this.

Although Daniel Alfredsson only had a couple years where he was substantially over a PPG player (on pace for +100), he has been consistent through his entire career. He scores at least 20 goals every year with 2 30 goal years and 2 40 goal years. His PPG over 1000 games played averages at .937, is not only better than several of his peers above him, but it's better than a lot of HOF'ers (Recchi, Shanahan, Gartner, Nieuwyndyk) and tantamount to (Doug Gilmour, Lucky Luc, Fedorov - just to name a few).

For your comparisons - Roenick averaged .892 ppg, never won any type of award in the NHL, and never won a stanley cup or a gold medal, and never captained a team as long as Alfredsson did.

As for Eric Lindros, I agree he deserves to be in the HOF on the merit of how he played, not his statistics (obviously).

WHile I could agree that Alfie isn't a sure lock like a Lidstrom, Alfie will get in, and he should be in there. he has had a good enough career.

I can't say why Bernie Nichols, Housley etc aren't in. I can even agree with you on what the ideal standard should be for a hall of fam ... but the realistic standard says Alfredsson will make it.

I also think that they let a lot of players into the hockey HOF...with that being said I think Alfredsson probably gets in eventually.

@Brazilian Jitz "the realistic standard says"

That's an interesting point you make. The realistic standard does say that Alfredsson should eventually get in, but my problem is that the standard itself is pure **** and guys like Alfredsson shouldn't be getting in. I'm just looking at the list of HoF inductees and it's awful, especially from this millennium.

Joe Niewendyk, Mark Howe, Glenn Anderson, Ron Francis, Larry Murphy, Pat LaFontaine, Grant ******* Fuhr, Bernie ******* Federko, ************* Joe Mullen, ******* CLARK ******* GILLIES **** and the crown jewel himself...**** Duff.

EDIT: Holy ****, I didn't even KNOW Mark Recchi was in there too. Wow...they really let EVERYONE in. Is John LeClair in there too? Throw me some Eric Desjardins maybe? Or how about that Roman Cechmanek?

What in the ****?

In my opinion, none of those guys should be in the HoF. I don't think Housley and Nicholls should be in it either. But that's just the way it is, 'cause the Hockey Hall of Fame is a load of ****.

Oh and also, Eric Lindros has more of a right into the Hall of Fame than any of those ******* names I listed. No ******* team was ever like "****, we gotta shut down Joe Mullen tonight or he's gonna kill us". No ******* team was like "I hope to God we put one past Grant Fuhr 'cause that guy is unstoppable". No ******* team was ever like "I hope **** Duff doesn't play tonight or we're getting ******".
