AJ and his camp ****** up for sure, even because of "medical" reasons, he shouldn't put himself in that position, if his body shot down its because he didn't do it right, and that's his responsibility (and his camp's). No matter he's still gonna get his ass kicked.

i'm not sure if he'd cut him. i think he's got one more shot. if it happens again he'll go. also, if he wins, i think everyone will say it was due to the weight advantage. it wouldn't be seen as an actual win in people's eyes

He needs a highlight reel win to have a chance at keeping his job.  Everyone who knows anything about the sport will discount the win anyway, but if it's a highlight knockout that brings more eyes to the UFC, he'll probably get another chance.

I was reading the comments section on this story on another site, always fun to read a bunch of people who have never fought in their lives, or have had like two amateur fights, talking about weight cutting and flaming those who are against it. Personally I've always been against it, if they did weigh-ins 3-4 hours before a fight, and you had to fight at whatever weight you would normally step into the ring at (or be severely drawn out trying to drop too much weight, and be bloated as hell from drinking a gallon of water only an hour before fighting, and just end up being in terrible condition), fighters would be healthier and in their correct weight classes. No more of this "man this guy's big for a Middleweight" nonsense. If Anthony Johnson is sick, it's because he made himself sick. I'll even go one step further, when I used to box people would ask me why I didn't cut weight, I used to say "because I'm not a *****. I want to fight people my own size". One argument is that you do end up fighting people the same size (because everyone cuts weight) but some people are much better at it than others, and 10 pounds can make all the difference between two guys that know how to use it.

Also, I'm keeping my prediction, if the fight happens. I've just never been a big Vitor Belfort fan at all :-)

they most likely did not cancel the fight b/c that would have left just 9 fights. when was the last time that happened?

If it were a prelim they might have just canceled it. But this is the co-main event and one of two fights being shown on network TV in Brazil.   Vitor is a big star in Brazil.   Keeping the fight was very important.

@ADoseofBuckey it would be nice to see the weigh-ins earlier in the same day.
this is ultimate fighting not ultimate weight-cutting.
but the weight classes would have to change in my opinion.

the problem is that people are just used to it, it in the fight culture right now
so i think it wont happen in our lifetimes.

btw, im disappointed in
johnson i thought his weight problems would be over, and now its worse...

quick trivia question.  i don't know the answer but maybe one of you will: how many guys have missed weight and gone on to win their fight?  UFC only.  i feel like it's extremely rare.
hallman did it against makdessi at 140.  i'm having trouble thinking of others.

@jeremy, and of course Rumble Johnson himself beat Yoshida after missing weight by 6 or 7 pounds back at UFC 104.

hard to call. johnson's weight problems only make it harder. is he out of shape, unhealthy, or just not trying to not be huge?

given both the on day weigh in so he wont be fully recovered and knowing that he needs to impress dana I think rumble will be coming out swinging looking for a quick finish- and thats going to play right into Vitors hands

Someone needs to starting stealing Aferny Johnsons sweetroles.

(Despite the medical reason, HE made the doctor tell him to do that by attempting such a dangerous cut and still would have been a pound and a half over, changing my pick to Vitor)

I hope Vitor teaches him a lesson. But my pick is based on Johnson's weight issues which will affect his perfomance. Belfot damages him in the 1st round and then finishes him off in the 2nd.

I was going to pick Johnson until this whole weight fiasco went down. I don't think he's going to make it out of the first.
