I'm a huge Edgar fan. Dana is right about Frankie's heart. There's none bigger in mma. He's 3-0-1 in his last 4 fights, 2 against Maynard and 2 against Penn. That's incredible. No other 155er could do that. However he's #3 behind GSP and Silva. Those other 2 guys have been dominating their weight classes for a lot longer.

he's a pretty good fighter with a huge fighting-heart but #2? really? I have him on #5 at the moment, i see Silva, GSP, Jones and Aldo in front of him.

but anyway non of those fighters can buy anything of beeing #4 in the world or anything like that

I think 3 is still too high for Frankie.  I will have Anderson/Gsp/Jones/Aldo ahead of him .. at best he is at number 5 for me.

#2 ?? not a chance,  dana is just on his nuts because his heart is good for ratings and GSP hasn't been finishing.  he's the same weight as Aldo and IMO Aldo would kill him so there is no way that he can be above Aldo.

@puta.. your opinion being the key words. Edgar would kill Aldo in my opinion. So therefore he is above him.

and secondly GSP and jones don't even lose rounds, how can you put him higher then these guys when he's losing the fights he's in and pulling off draws?

@thaigo well i think we'll find out soon enough as i feel that fight is inevitable.  the LWD is stacked and the 145 div is pretty hurting IMO so i think that as soon as frankie gets beat that he'll make his way down to 145

GSP and Silva have to be numbers 1 and 2, but their positions can interchange, IMO.  However, there's no valid pound for pound list without those two being at the very top.  Under that, there is room for debate.  Edgar deserves to be top 5, no doubt.

These men have better skill sets than Edgar:

Anderson - Gsp - Jones - Aldo -

When it comes to pound-for-pound I really don't consider wins/losses or level of competition.  It's all about, assuming all their skills were transplanted into a body of the same weight, who would come out on top.

It's kind of pointless to even discuss, bottom line is:  at this stage of MMA the best fighter in the world is almost always whomever the best heavyweight currently is.  For that reason I usually exclude heavyweights from P4P talks, but I think Cain has an equal if not better skill set than Edgar.

Why the hell people put Jones at the top 5 p4p? He has some solid wins and he is a great fighter but his career is short. He should be lower than the guys with long careers. Imho 1/2 GSP/Silva (very close, hard to decide), 3. Aldo 4. Frankie, 5. Cruz

Also the LHW is the most overhyped div out there. Not saying it's not good but it gets the most coverage(Lidell, Randy, Page in movies, Jones in many shows) and it's the most hyped by the UFC so it's very hard to judge the real skill level in it. On the other hand LW gets less hype (from the UFC, not the fans) than any of the higher divisions (maybe MW is similar) and the skill level is stacked (it's kinda obvious since most guys at ~10-12%bf and cut could get into LW). As much as I don't like some of the LW fighters I'd see quite a few of them above Jones.

@norbar taking all the actual fighters out of the equation, why does it matter how long someone has been fighting? if you are the best, aren't you the best, regardless of how long your career has been?

@thiago don't look now but you're making a strong point for jones.  jones has also beaten every man he's ever faced.  and he's beaten soon to be 3 former champs in the same year.  frankie has only beaten one in his career

i agree with @gregory...if the BEST ever hadd only one fight..does that make him any less of a fighter?

edgar doesnt pass silva, gsp, or jones on my list....

i got 1. silva 2. gsp 3. jones 4. edgar 5. cruz 6. aldo

aldo has been less and less impressive over his last few fights...imo

Cough Hammill. Jones has only beaten 2. And they werent exactly dominant champs in the ufc. Edgar beat the most dominant lightweight in ufc history, twice.

most dominant or most famous? bj has been up and down. matt hughes was more dominant then him.  and shogun and jackson weren't dominant?? jackson unified the pride and ufc belts and jones was the only person to finish him since he was just a wrestler in pride.  and as for shogun.  does your hate for jones really allow you to discredit all that he's done as well?? pride grand prix champ, ufc champion, handed machida his 1st loss...  it goes on.  don't let your hate for jones let you ignor the facts.
