Predictions: 8 of 12 Winners, 5 Perfect, 640 Points | 5th Place
Round 1:
Else opens up with some kicks, but gets clipped by a peach of a left hand counter by ‘The Baddie’ coming in. Else scrambles for a takedown and latches onto a D’Arce choke! He locks it up and rolls, and Pimblett is out! A huge submission win for Cameron Else in our opening bout here at Cage Warriors 60, as he becomes the first man to defeat Pimblett.
Ben Constantine vs Charlie Watts
Round 1:
Watts lands hard in the opening exchange, finding a home for an uppercut that bloodies Constantine and wobbles the Cheltenham man. Watts continues to press forward, pushing his man against the cage and looking for takedowns. Constantine is fighting him every step of the way, and forces the break. Watts explodes, showcasing his Muay Thai with knees, elbows and punches! Constantine looks for the shot, and hoists Watts up for a huge slam. ‘The Ox’ is back up though, and doing good work in close. Watts nails another takedown with 30 on the clock, but isn’t able to capitalise. A fast and furious first round here between these two middleweights!
Round 2:
Constantine scores with some body shots to start the 2nd, but it’s Watts’ combinations that are looking crisper. Constantine connects with a big left hand, but an inadvertent eye poke halts the action. Constantine’s power shots are finding a home, but his corner are calling for combinations. The pace is fast and furious on the inside, as both men let rip with heavy leather! Constantine pushes Watts back with a series of big hooks, landing upstairs and downstairs as the round closes. Watts may be slowing down slightly here, but can Constantine capitalise in the third?
Round 3:
Constantine still has plenty of pop in his shots as we start the third, but Watts fires back with some solid knees in close. A huge left-right hook combination lands from Constantine, but Watts takes it like a champ and continues to press forward. The local man is still the more accurate of the pair, but there’s more heat on the gloves of Constantine, as he backs Watts up with heavy punches. Left hooks to the body and kicks to the lead leg are slowing Watts further, but he’s not backing down! The pair end the fight as they began, trading in the pocket as the final bell rings! What a scrap!
It’s down to our judges to separate the pair, and it’s a split-decision for Charlie Watts! No losers here though - an incredible performance from both fighters.
Hold on to your seats folks - After a sizzling start to the night, it’s time for the reserve bout of our lightweight tournament. Less than a month ago, reserve bout winner Jordan Desborough fought for the title; will one of tonight’s reservists get the same opportunity?
Sean Carter vs Richard Griffin
Round 1:
The veteran Griffin lands some sweet shots in the opening exchange, but soon finds himself clinched up with Carter on the cage. Griffin looks for the takedown, but ‘Sexy Curls’ has neutralised his man. Carter lands a pair of nice knees up the middle, and looks for a takedown of his own. Carter dumps Griffin on his back, just as it appeared referee Neil Hall was about to call a break, and he’s straight into side control. He looks to pass, but ends up in half guard. Griffin explodes back to his feet though, eating a few short shots for his trouble.
Round 2:
A wild striking exchange kicks off round two, with both men landing before Carter forces a takedown. Griffin pops up, but before long he’s hoisted high above his opponent’s head and deposited hard on the mat. Griffin is keeping Carter subdued in his half guard, and the BKK fighter is struggling to find a way out. Griffin causes a scramble and takes Carter down hard! He drops some elbows, but ‘Sexy Curls’ calmly sweeps and lands some big shots! Another scramble see’s Griffin come close with a heel hook, but Carter twists out and lands a huge punch as the pair rise! Another shot lands, and Griffin is wobbled! Carter takes him down and locks up a rear naked choke for the tap!
A back and forth fight between the tournament reserve fighters there, and a well deserved win for Carter, who keeps his perfect professional record intact!
Aaron Blackwell vs Kris Edwards
Round 1:
After a tentative feeling out period, the pair trade hard kicks. Blackwell closes the gap, pressing Edwards into the cage. Rich Mitchell gives them time to work on the cage, before eventually resetting the pair. An errant kick from Blackwell goes low, but Edwards only needs a second before he’s ready to go. A huge body-lock takedown puts Edwards in the driving seat on the ground, and he cuts Blackwell with a nice shot. A slow start to the first round, but the confidence seems to be building for Edwards. Let’s see what he can do with it in round 2!
Round 2:
Edwards establishes his range with a snapping jab and a nice low kick, before hoisting his man up for a huge takedown. ‘Evil’ works from within the guard, but Blackwell sweeps! He loses the position as quickly as he gained it though, as a failed submission attempt sees Edwards back in guard. Blackwell is trying to use the fence to stand up, but settles for a sweep into side control. He gets mount as the 10-second clapper sounds, but Edwards escapes out of the back door at the buzzer! It’s all to play for as we enter our third and final round!
Round 3:
Blackwell keeps Edwards at bay with his striking to start the third. The Welshman closes the gap, but leaves his neck in on a takedown attempt. Unable to capitalise, Blackwell finds himself back in guard, looking to shake off Edwards’ wrist control as he drops elbows on the Welshman. Edwards fires off the odd up-kick, but is unable to mount any significant offence as Blackwell chips away. A flurry of activity ends the round, with Blackwell getting one last elbow in for good measure.
Our judges are once again called into action, and it’s another split decision, this time in favor of Aaron Blackwell!
