Belfort was legally using TRT under the approval of the Brazilian athletic commission that oversaw the event in Sao Paulo, but when the news surfaced a much bigger issue was brought up.

The 35-year-old tested positive for elevated levels of testosterone in a 2006 bout under the Pride banner, something many believe should disqualify Belfort from using TRT.

A large contingent of people strongly feel that fighters who have previously tested positive for performance enhancing drugs (PEDs) should not be administered the****utic-use-exemptions (TUE) for TRT due to the fact that previous drug abuse is likely what caused the athlete to suffer from low testosterone levels in the first place.

With Belfort in the midst of a lot of controversy and discussion, the Brazilian took to Twitter to issue what he says will be his one and only statement regarding TRT.

"This will be last time that I will talk about TRT I never hide from UFC that I was on the treatment but I admit that I didn't admit to the press. I confess that this was my mistake I am MAN enough to admit my mistakes So from now on, guys please don't fight me if u going to use this as a excuse that's it. I never lie and never hide from UFC."

The biggest issue comes down to whether or not we trust companies such as the NFL and UFC to test their own athletes rigorously if it means a) money out of their pocket to fund the tests and b) money out of their pocket if positive tests result in the loss of headlining fights. I for one am not holding my breath that Dana and company are going to suspend someone like Vitor Belfort or Chael Sonnen if a private test comes up positive.

Unfortunately, White's recent rant may have been more of a PR stunt than an actual sign of increased testing from the UFC on its own stars.

If its the ACs doing the testing then the UFC wouldn't have any say on the matter...the AC suspends a fighter for a failed test and the majority of states will uphold the other states suspension

@skelliher - I gotta agree with that last statement.  The more I've thought about it, the more I've realised that the UFC is just not interested in losing money.  Whether it be on the testing or having fights cancelled due to positive results.  I just don't see it happening.
Hell one of Dana's favourite fighters is Chael.  He gifted him a season of TUF as well as a title shot just because of the hype he can bring.  Even after Chael tested at 16.9:1 using TRT illegally.  Hell he even got the second shot at Anderson.  Dana's full of **** and always will be.

Just a thought, but since we're talking money. Anyone think Dana changed his stance because of a sponsor? Some big sponsor like Bud Light said "we don't want to sponsor an organization where athletes using performing enhances substances, do something about it"

@amp: No. Bud also sponsors the NFL, where cheating is pretty rampant behind closed doors as well.

Indirect threats to one of the people who run this site isn't the best idea, JM. You shouldn't take my thoughts on the UFC and NFL personally.

This isn't a courtroom. Skelliher is simply bringing a separate side of a theory.

PEDs aren't really a huge talking point in the NFL. Same with the NHL. Don't ask, don't tell. I bet a sponsor would be more upset with a controversial point getting airplay rather than the controversial point itself.

JM, if you hover your mouse over Skelliher's name you'll see the word "Administrator". I'd suggest letting it go without trying to poke at him anymore, but if you get banned it'll be good for the lulz.

We the people of Tapology should be afraid of the Administrator?

If it not for the people of Tapology, there would be no administrator.

and i do not poke  skelliher. Does he look like a bear? I think not.

No one on this site should have any reason to be afraid of the administrators. They do their job well and rid this site of the filth. It's always great when Gregory or some of the other admins join in on our discussions or pointless rants.

I've been on some sites where the admins will go trigger happy with unwarranted bans or suspensions because they have it out for a user. Not so with tapology.

JM, you are not "we, the people". And skell looks like a tiger. You don't poke the tiger either. Even if you're "Pi" Patel. Also, skell beat a bear in his debut fight. Just so you'd know.

I don't know if it was intentional or not, but JM's last few posts made me laugh, along with some supporting posts from the others. Maybe it's because it's late and I have the giggles or something.

The banhammer remains holstered ... for now.
