@mmown Yeah it didn't put his wrestling on the same level with Chael Sonnen either. Maia still got the takedown and the submission. I think if Fitch tries to grind it like you said he getting subed from the bottom.

When ADCC Maia shows up Fitch gets finished...

@P4P The impressive thing in the Kim fight wasn't the finish but the way Maia took him down. Story isn't that good ? Well you're maybe right but he's still a good wrestler and he too got taken down right from the start and like Fitch was never submited before...

Sonnen has terrible submission defense. Fitch is much better at stopping the submission and controlling the ground game.

Well that's true but Maia's BJJ is spectacular, Fitch never fought someone with such skills on the ground. The only two guys I can think of are BJ and GSP and he didn't win those fights.

Eric Silva is a black belt as well but Maia is a 4th dan BB and if Maia gets in positions Silva was in it's over...

Kind of on the fence here. Both top notch world class dudes IMO but unless mia seriously imposes hisself early I think Fitch has a great chance. If Fitch doesn't feel challenged or surprised he seems to keep his composure very well. I expect some highlight reel grappling :)

I agree that Maia does have amazing BJJ, but I just don't see him getting past Fitch. I think Maia is great at submissions but that he is highly overrated as an overall fighter.

@ED209 I agree, the grappling will be awesome to watch from a technical aspect. I think the uneducated fans that don't grapple aren't going to like it very much though

Story hasn't been training mma or jitz that long at all. Maia looked good in that fight but Story was nowhere near ready for someone like Maia. Story/Kim aren't even in the same galaxy with Fitch when it comes to mma. I'm not saying Fitch will run through Maia or anything like that I'm just not sold on Maia being a top contender in the ww division based off his 2 fights. Now if he beats Fitch I'll be a believer.

It seems like I can't get you guys on the right track, well you have to learn the hard way then. And by that I mean with a wrong pick ;->

Fitch via clinch against the cage. He'll control him against the cage and work in takedowns later in the rounds. He'll be safe fitchin this one. This fight is to dangerous a fight.

I love Maia and I want to be wrong about this, but Fitch never loses by submission, Maia ain't knocking anyone out and it will be hard for Maia to win by decision.

As long as we dont see K1 Maia I think he will win. I cant get over Silva taking Fitch's back and nearly putting him out

"The impressive thing in the Kim fight wasn't the finish but the way Maia took him down."

Yes, very impressive indeed. Sigh.

I really don't know who to pick for this fight, I'll probably pick Fitch via decision but I would not be surprised to see Maia win because of how well their skills match up versus each other. Maia's the greatest jiu-jitsu artist in MMA and when it comes to being unsubmittable, Jon Fitch makes Benson Henderson look like Chael Sonnen. Fitch is obviously the better striker but I think he'll go via the Fitching route and grind Maia into a fine paste along the cage. Maia can and probably will try to pull guard if it comes to that but I expect Fitch to fitch n' pound from full guard like he always does without giving Maia any room to breathe.

Or Maia could take advantage of Fitch if he starts pounding from open guard and easily set up a triangle or armbar and while Fitch hasn't been submitted despite being caught in 23 subs in his UFC career, he isn't invincible. Very interesting fight.

can't wait for this fight, I really like both of them, I don't know who to pick, anything can happen, but I think Fitch has a little advantage with his style, he can be aggressive when needed or just grind them 7 ways from sunday but he'll be at risk all the time he is on top of Maia, and I'm not sure he can defend 15 minutes of Maia's sub attempts.

Fitch will dominate Maia in a semi boring fight. Rounds 1, and 2 will be Fitch on top, and Maia throwing up submissions that never land. 3rd round. Fitch is gonna do some serious LnP
