Thanks skelliher.  No problem with closing the other thread.  I had looked for it but couldn't find it.

I will pick up where I left off.  I'm picking Jones by TKO in the first or second.

I believe that Sonnen will try to take the fight down, not because he will have a good shot there, but because he has NO shot standing.

So, Sonnen will start standing, take a few hard shots, and shoot.  Jones will have little reason to defend the TD, knowing he is as at home on the ground as he is on the feet.

Or, an alternative scenario, is that Jones will kick, Sonnen will grab the leg and get the TD. Once on the ground, Sonnen is not big, strong or good enough to control Jones.  Jones will get the top position and start raining down short, hard elbows on Chael.  These will be brutal and the ref will jump in to save Chael from unnecessary damage.

Can anyone come up with a path to victory for Chael Sonnen?  How can he get inside?  

Where are his areas of advantage?

The double leg is his one and only advantage. Keeping Jones down is a completely different story. I would not be surprised if Sonnen is able to take Jones down. But if that happens, it will probably end with Jones' legs wrapped around Sonnen's neck.

Jones is a lot bigger than Silva. That makes a difference for grappling.

It's not just about Jones' size. He is a fantastic wrestler period. He's outgrappled Machida, Belfort, Evans, Rampage, Vera, Matyushenko, and Hamill, shti just about everyone that he has faced in MMA. Sonnen has fantastic offensive grappling, and he's one of the best p4p wrestlers in MMA, but his defensive grappling and submission defense is what has cost him a lot of his losses. Against a fighter like Jones, I just don't see Sonnen having a chance anywhere the fight takes place. I don't see him taking Jones down, I don't see Sonnen outstriking Jones, and I definitely don't see Sonnen submitting Jones. Jon Jones is a fighter that excels everywhere the fight takes place. He is the poster-child for a well rounded MMA athlete. The only unpredictable thing I see to this fight, is when and how Jones is going to win.

I see a bigger, more profound problem than Chael simply being unable to defeat Jon Jones.  I don't know why he is fighting him.  

President Dana White told us that Chael was the only person who stepped up to fight Jon Jones, after Jones defeated Vitor Belfort.  

But since Rashad Evans, Dan Henderson and Lyoto Machida all still wanted a title shot, I find the fact that Chael Sonnen is fighting for the LHW title *****, odd and inexplicable.  I doubt if Chael could defeat any of the 3.

This breakdown of an orderly system to determine title shot candidates has happened on Dana's watch and he is responsible.  And the LHW division is not the only one that lacks a systematic process for selecting contenders.  

I find this a disturbing trend and it doesn't seem to be getting better.

I find it *****, odd, and inexplicable too. I'm actually quite unhappy about it to be honest.

Chael is getting this title shot because he was the only one willing to replace Hendo at UFC 151 on 8 days notice. Let me reiterate ONLY guy willing to step up. When Chael says anyone, anywhere, anytime he actually really means it. After Jones beat Vitor then your right bill those guys did then want a title shot. But the issue was Dana needed someone before the Vitor fight not after it.

I hate to say it but Jones takes this one. Although Chael P. is a very entertaining guy and a mans man, he simply does not have the skills to compete with Jon.

Why is Jones so blase about the promotion? Is he just leaving it all to Chael? He looked like he couldn't be bothered on Saturday to even answer a question or two?
