I know this is an MMA website but I bet that there are some Boxing Fans out there.
I just love the sport of fighting in general and I have been raised by boxing.
So in this Thread we can discuss the "Sweet Science"
such as
Past Fights
Upcoming Events
Favorite Fighters
and Historical Figures in the Sport
Because like MMA in the US, Boxing started out illegal. But where it took MMA less than 25 years to gain the General populations approval, It took boxing over 100 years.
Discuss and have fun.

This weekend was actually pretty heavy on big name boxing action:
Vitali Klitschko dominated the previously undefeated Manuel Charr to a 4th round TKO. This was Vitali's 9th consecutive WBC Heavyweight title defense and pushed his record to 45-2.
Lucas Matthysse recorded his 4th straight stoppage after his split decision loss to Devon Alexander. With the victory Matthysse won the interim WBC Light Welterweight title.
Ward dominated Dawson from the 3rd round on. The first 2 rounds were competitive, but after that it looked like Dawson just didn't know what to do. Actually this was one of the more exciting fights I've seen either in. Anyway, Andre Ward moved to 26-0 (14 KOs) as a pro and has effectively left very few people as legitimate contenders. Likely matchups include rematches with Mikkel Kessler and Carl Froch.

Valero had 27 fights, 27 wins, 27 KOs in his career. Crazy.
Williams was 41-2 in his career. Hopefully he walks again.

On a brighter note, if you're looking for boxers that are exciting and still active I like to watch Miguel Cotto and Saul "Canelo" Alvarez. Some others would be Victor Ortiz and Nonito Donaire.

Roy Jones Jr greatest knockouts.

The thing with RJJ was that, in his prime, he had superior speed, reflexes, strength, longer reach when he was at his best, and a solid chin. Now, he's fighting at too heavy of a weight class, his speed and reflexes are both gone, his chin is slowly leaving him, and his strength has dissipated as evidenced by the fact that when he does win, it's by decision. He was never a very skilled boxer, but he nobody could touch him because his physical attributes were just so superior to everybody else.

the reason why is because after going up to 207 of solid muscle he cut to 175 to fight Tarver.
and because of that, his body basically lost all control. speed left and so did reaction time.

The other big fight upcoming (both Saturday night, but sadly on separate PPVs) is Sergio Martinez (49-2-2) vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (46-0-1 1NC). I'm pretty sure Martinez is going to JCC. Martinez's left hand is filled with dynamite and I don't think Chavez is going to be able to take it. I'm thinking Martinez gets the KO some time in the first 6 rounds. Who are you guys picking?
Is anyone else annoyed by the fact that both of these fights are gonna be on at the same time? I kinda wanted to watch both of them.

Canelo and Martinez are two of my favorite boxers right now. More of a fan of Canelo but i'm living in Argentina so i'll probably watch Martinez/Chavez Jr. at a bar or something. Both should win but good fights though.
