He was only 32 years old with his only losses in 3 years being to two champions and P4P high-rankers (which we now know Frankie is) and wins over contenders Sanchez and Florian ...
No one would retire at that stage ...
Don't forget that he didn't have the hindsight view of the consequent draw with Fitch and loss to Diaz back then ...
Hindsight vision is always 20/20 ...

Bill, St. Pierre-Condit just happened, people had been talking about it in the thread for months, and even more so after the fight. Penn-MacDonald is still a ways off, hence less discussion thus far.

At fist I was just picking Penn by default, but if you really think about it, Penn is not without advantages in this fight.
Standing up, BJ has better hands. Rory may have a more versatile striking game over all, but it's not like he's Anderson Silva or Anthony Pettis out there.
There's also a good chance the wrestling is in BJ's favor. BJ has shown the ability to hang with the wrestling of the likes of Matt Hughes and Jon Fitch. He's out wrestled guys like Sean Sherk and Diego Sanchez. Rory isn't a bad wrestler, but Jon Fitch he is not.
The BJJ obviously goes to Penn. Once again, Rory is a solid grappler, but Penn has probably forgotten more about BJJ than Rory has learned in his lifetime.
So what does that leave Rory? Size, youth, cardio.... that's about it. That still might be enough for him, especially if BJ isn't in great shape, but don't be surprised when BJ goes out there and gives Rory a much harder time than many people seem to think he will.
