My MMA Rankings
Top Light Heavyweight MMA Fighters
The light heavyweight division represents the passing of the torch in MMA. This is very clear on a fighter's level, as the "old guard" of the flagship division passes away. But this torch passing also exists on a more symbolic level. The LHWD is not the stacked division of the 2000's. While the greats like Liddell, Jackson, Ortiz, and Rua pass on, there are comparatively fewer fighters replacing them. There is no obvious reason. Perhaps 205 was really just a division for in-shape heavyweights who knew how to make a proper weight cut? As state of the art training becomes the norm, there does seem to be a migration to middleweight for many high level fighters like Brian Stann, and Tim Boesch Outside of the UFC, there exists practically no serious LHW contenders. Even more scary is that there are few prospects. It makes you wonder if Jon Jones, my number 1 ranked, will spend all his time taking out the fighters of yesterday, and not the fighters of today.
