why would bj penn retire hes a great multi skillled fighter. I understood he got beatdown by nick diaz but that happens in fighting. He just needs to work on stamina and train more on his cardio he is a top fighter. His jiujitsu and boxing is deadly. His wrestling has gotten preety good too.

He "retired" because of the way he looked after the Diaz fight and he doesn't want to come home to his 2 young daughters looking like that. BJ will fight again though!

Yeah someone with his legend and pedigree usually retire then realize hey i want to fight again then will retire again for good, way too young for his urge for competitive combat to be over no way.

The only way i'll ever get excited about my favorite fighter coming back to MMA is if he's at 155. Because when he fights as a welterweight, most of the time, it makes me sad to watch.

BJ Penn may be the biggest waste of natural talent in MMA History. If he buckled down and kicked his own ass, there would be no telling how incredible he could have been. I mean, a lot of people still think he's ridiculously amazing. Imagine him in the first round, only better, and for a whole fight.

what i'm really trying to say is think about how to be welcoming to new members posting in the forums.

i don't suspect you meant any harm by it. just think about it from @johmal2's point of view and if we're pushing away new members who are trying to get involved on tapology.

also, i think penn is an interesting topic regardless of who started the thread.

Double Rich Franklin

Penn found himself in what could be described as double-Rich Franklin Territory.  Having lost to GSP twice already and Edgar twice as well there was really no title in sight.  BJ might say it's not about belts and he has had a lot of money for a long time but then again his level of motivation is always a question mark.  What left does he really have to prove? But Penn will probably fight again at some point if the right circumstance comes along.
