I figured Tapology needs an official NFL thread, for all talks related to the NFL. Sick of seeing random topics on the Peyton Manning thread.

So please discuss the NFL here, thanks everyone.

When a QB has 4600 yards passing and 27 TDs to go with 20 interceptions and 9 fumbles that tells that he needs some offensive line players replaced, a good RB or two, and/or defensive changes made. Even with the 20 interceptions and 9 fumbles, 4600 yards passing and 27 TDs tells me that Rivers did his job.

Rivers was 6th in yards and 8th in TD's which shows he is still elite.  I wouldn't put the INT's and fumbles solely on the OL though.  He needs to protect the ball.  Thats what seperates Aaron Rodgers from everone else.  Last year he had an 8-1 td-int ratio.

20 picks and 9 fumbles is inexcusable regardless of how bad the OLine is

The reason why Aaron Rodgers is the best is because he's elite in every way possible.

Top 5 QB Scramblers
1. Michael Vick
2. Cam Newton
3. Tim Tebow
4. Aaron Rodgers
5. Josh Freeman

Top 5 Strongest QB Arms
1. Jay Cutler
2. Aaron Rodgers
3. Michael Vick
4. Matthew Stafford
5. Joe Flacco

Top 5 Most Accurate QBs
1. Drew Brees
2. Aaron Rodgers
3. Tom Brady
4. Tony Romo
5. Peyton Manning (I assume his accuracy will take a hit 'cause of the surgeries)

Top 5 QBs When Pressured
1. Aaron Rodgers
2. Drew Brees
3. Tony Romo
4. Jay Cutler
5. Michael Vick

Top 5 Smartest QBs
1. Peyton Manning
2. Tom Brady
3. Aaron Rodgers
4. Eli Manning
5. Ryan Fitzpatrick (You know why I put him here, if you don't you're not much of an NFL fan)

Top 5 Clutch QBs
1. Eli Manning
2. Ben Roethlisberger
3. Drew Brees
4. Aaron Rodgers
5. Tim Tebow

If I could think of more top 5s to make for QBs, I would and I'm very sure that Aaron Rodgers would be top 5 in all of the good ones, or at least there would be an argument to put him into the top 5.

I agree he is elite in almost every area.  I was simply stating the biggest difference between a QB who didn't protect the ball, Rivers, and a QB who does, Rodgers.  That is the difference between River's being elite in broadcaster's minds and being "down."

The rest of his numbers were fairly similar.

@Live2wrestle It's not inexcusable, O-lines make and break a QB. If Rivers threw 30 picks and was behind a bad offensive line, the blame should go to the offensive line. Offensive lines are the most important positions in football, they can make an amazing quarterback look average and they can make an average quarterback look amazing.

Couldn't disagree more.  Rodgers played one less game than Rivers and was sacked 6 more times.  He had no elite RB and still protected the ball with 14 fewer INT and 5 fewer fumbles.  QBS are obviously going to be better when they have protection but it isn't the only thing that make's or breaks QBs.

As a QB you need to know when to throw it away and when to eat a sack to avoid turnovers.

Key word in your statement, "Rodgers". Rodgers and Rivers are two different QB styles. Put a guy like Tom Brady who fits Philip Rivers' style more and see how well Brady does in front of a ****** O-line.

Peyton Manning made an entire team look amazing, but he is about the only guy I would put over Rodgers out of recent QBs.

@WishIsHere And he has no neck.

@Live2wrestle That doesn't make sense, the Mike Martz-style offense (which had the most success when he was the Rams OC when Warner was QB) requires a great O-line to protect the QB long enough for the WR routes to develop.

If Warner had a ****** O-line and was forced to dump the ball quickly, the Martz-style offense would have the same amount of success the Bears had with it (not much).

I'm talking about Peyton from the last 10 years on average (before he got injured).

Trust me I grew up watching every Rams game, our OLine sucks every year. The key was that we had receivers that got downfield and open fast and Warner had great vision

You also had one of the best RBs of that era in Marshall Faulk.

@Live2wrestle Bears receivers are pretty ******* fast with a real ****** O-line, why didn't Martz have the same amount of success with the Bears than he did with the Rams?

There's no way the Rams receivers were faster than the Bears' so the explanations I could think of are the Rams' o-line was actually mediocre at best or the Bears o-line of the past few years is worse than I thought it was (and I thought it was the worst in the league).

LOLOLOL you did not just compare the Bears receivers to Holt/Bruce/Faulk. Also Warner > Cutler

Torry Holt, Isaac Bruce and Marshall Faulk are A MILLION TIMES better at the WR position than any WR the Bears had back when they had Martz (emphasis on Faulk, the RB is better at catching than any of our WRs lol).

BUT. If there is one thing you cannot fault the Bears receiving corps, it's speed. Johnny Knox ran a 4.34 40 and Devin Hester is the greatest returner of all-time. They can't catch balls for ****, they can't run routes for ****, they can't get themselves open for ****, but damn they are some fast ****s.

Warner was a system fit coming from an arena football background he played right in to what Martz wanted to do with that offense.  Nothing special as you can see when he was on the bench in New York.  Warner most overrated guy in history of NFL.
