Alright folks,

As you might know I'm Tapology Boxing editor. I know the majority of you guys are here for MMA, so was I originally. But for the last year or 2 there is a little more interest in Boxing on the site.

So here's a place to talk boxing.

I can still remember watching him dismantle James Toney. It was incredible watching him ***** slap somebody that good defensively and just that good overall. Toney was and still is regarded as one of the best defensive boxers ever and he had absolutely nothing in his skill set to deal with Jones. He was bamboozled. Remember that moment when Toney tried to copy Jones' trolling and immediately got swatted on his ass?

And for the uninitiated who may only vaguely remember Toney getting merked  by Couture in MMA, Yes, Toney was a very high level and very dangerous Boxer in his heyday. As I say he was amazing defensively, carried horrific power, and had excellent hand speed. It kind of pissed me off when the couture fight was made and people were saying 'This guy's a bum he's gonna get KO'ed by Randy'! I was like eeeeehhhh...that's James Toney, people. Maybe look up some tape of him before writing him off on the feet, even in his seniority.  Because his right hand killed people back in the day.

Yes I remember Jones vs Toney. James Toney is another Hall of Fame legend!!! His inside fighting is 2nd to none!!! He stood right in front of the best in the world, made them miss and hit them A LOT!!! James Tony's series with Mike McCallum is about as good as it gets!

I was a little young at the time but something I do remember from then. Nigel Benn Chris Eubank mania was at its height (it was HUGE, 15 million UK TV audience) and they were on a UK TV Chat show and James Toney appeared on a Satellite link and gave them ****!!! Haha
I don't know why but it clicked in my young mind At that point that as much as I loved Benn and Eubank, especially Benn. There was a WHOLE nother level of bad ass in James Toney!!!

@Mikey1903 Do you think Jake Paul will make the boxin' hall of fame? Many pundits say he is one of the most important fighters in boxin' history and has an unbeaten hot streak. They say if he beats pretty boy Fury he will go on to fight Canelo and defeat the fox haired scoundrel

RJJ hung around a little too long though. No one would've thought less of his career had he ended it after the first Tarver fight but instead kept going while it was getting clear he was slowing down considerably. Lost to Calzaghe, lost the trilogy with Tarver, and lost the rematch with Bernard. If it was 2001 Hopkins, Green and Lebedev wouldn't have been able to get wins over him. I'm bias though as I love his boxing but I really do think he was shot by that point in his career.

On aside note, I hated the Hopkins rematch and I think Bernard Hopkins is complete trash and one of the most flagrant abusers of the rulebook. Continuously walking into Jones Jr with his head down trying to get a head clash to open a cut, which of course it did. Landing a low blow in the 5th than after frustrating Hopkins faked being seriously injured as he drove himself to the canvas from a weak rabbit punch to get a point deduction, which was taken. Did it again too after they exchanged rabbit punches in the clinch but this time the Ref had sense not to deduct a point. Hopkins tried to do similar tactics in his Calzaghe fight too, faking two low blows and trying to get a head clash started. All of his pre-fight conferences with Calzaghe and Smith Jr added even more dislike to an already dislikeable fighter, rubbing his skin and talking about how he's "special" and how all the blacks in attendance are "special" than points to Smith Jr and says he's a "commoner" and "common" and how you should instead be more "special" and less "common". Really tempting fate and begging for a bad night in the ring. Of course the Smith Jr fight ended unremarkably....

Speaking of Green he was involved in a fixed fight against another Australian boxer, who had Don King as his manager, Paul Briggs.

Yeah Hopkins, some say he was a master wily veteran some say he's a dirty cheating bastard!!! Haha, I'm somewhat in the middle.
Also remember before the Calzaghe fight "I'll never let a white boy beat me!!". Well he got beat!

Yeah, Briggs tossed that ****. Everybody down under knows it. Amazingly, he avoided a fine which would have been in excess of 70K.

On the canine thing, calling someone a dog in Australia is a very serious insult, and it's a good way to earn a punch in the face at the local, especially in QLD.

Banger!!!

Just popped up on my Twitter timeline that it's the anniversary of this fight. Edinburghs Alex Arthur vs Manchesters Michael Gomez. Maybe the best British title fight of the 2000s (Matt Macklin vs Jamie Moore is up there too). This is 10 minutes of madness!!! If you want to see a war watch

No hate towards Bernard from me bud. Can't deny he was a dirty fighter, but also cannot deny his greatness! His win over Tito Trinidad stands out for me, that and the Kelly Pavlik win.

Yeah he played rough and maybe was a racist but I liked his boxing style, and the results till he got way too old.

Butterbean KO's Gunn: One of the most sickening knockouts ever recorded.

Gunn is virtually lifted off the ground and his head swivels 180 degrees and back. Easily one of the most nauseating KO's ever filmed, in a bout that never should have been booked.
