Can someone please tell me why Camões is the UFC's go-to guy when they need to get a fighter back into the top 10 when he's looking a bit off?

I means seriously, I have him ranked somewhere between 55-65 in the division and his last 3 fights are Guillard (after his losses to Lauzon and Miller had knocked him just out of the top 10), Jim Miller after his "loss" to Bam-Bam made him look like he was declining out of the top 10 and now Gray Maynard who's last losses are also kind of signaling his decline out of "the mix".

When he was set to fight Miller I thought it was coincidence, with the Guillard fight being a short notice replacement. But now it's 3 fights in a row against dwindling top 10ers who are waaaaay above him in the rankings ...

When it comes to these kinds of fights it's obviously a sign of poor match making and my guess has always remained the same... Joe Silva probably pulls out a random name from the bucket and out came Camoes this time. Most of the time I'm only interested in seeing an exciting fight, and I'm not too sure if this is the kind of one that will deliver.

Anyone stands a punchers chance of beating Gray these days, he's been in some wars and his chin has shown lately.

@flOw _, so every time a declining top 10 fighter needs to come back they magically pull Camões' name out of a hat? I don't think so, either he's expendable to them and they don't really care if he wins or loses or they think there's much much much more to him than his ranking suggests. Either way it's just weird that the guy's fighting 3 fights in a row against guys who are ranked a good 30 spots above him and happen to be UFC darlings that need a little boost of confidence to see if they can be nudged back in "the right direction". Didn't work for Melvin, worked for Miller, I have a feeling Gray's going to be the first of them that'll actually lose to Camões.

Well obviously I wasn't being 100% serious with his name being randomly picked, I just like to use it for these kinds of situations because it seems funny but I don't doubt it with other examples of poor match making (like Faber/Caceres). Also it's obvious that he's being used just to boost them back into that right direction like you mentioned. It could also be that the UFC are looking for a way to cut him because losing 2 fights in a row to fighters like Melvin and Miller may not seem reasonable enough. Anyway if Camoes loses this next one and doesn't get cut I won't be too surprised now that I see what's going on.

Seems like anyone who can ball up their fists has a shot at beating Maynard lately. I think Maynard takes this though, he'll probably use his wrestling to stifle Camoes' BJJ and take a UD.

Camoes last few fights have been against former LW contenders: Guillard, Miller, now Maynard.

@Mike, isn't Abel already fighting Frank Trevino who was bumped after Jury pulled out up with John Case signed to replace him vs. Ellenberger?

EDIT:: Holy ****, you're right, just saw Frank pulled out too ... wow! Way better fight!

EDIT #2:: Moved to UFC 176

I liked the Trevino fight because that was an easy pick for Abel. Now I've got to go against Abel and pick Bobby Green.

No one knows yet. On the weekend Dana said he didn;t give a **** about this card multiple times. Completely unfair. I would be super pissed if I lived in the area and already bought tickets OR want to buy tickets. Rumors of this event being cancelled may be accurate.

Mike, I think he was more saying that he "didn't give a **** about it" at that time. He still had TUF finale to get through, and it was at the end of a huge weekend for the UFC.

They'll come up with something to cover this event. Either make it free or get some type of Anderson Silva vs Stephan Bonnar fight.

I think theey should make it free. This is not a bad card.. it just isn't worth $60.
