Are people forgetting Matt Brown? If he beats Erick Silva I feel he should get the next crack at the belt.

Nah ... not when Lombard has beaten Shields, Rory beat Maia and Woodley beat Condit.

With all due respect to Mein, Pyle and Silva (whom he hasn't even beat yet), Matt Brown is going to have to wait his turn (or at least beat Silva) before he's in title talk ...

If Erick Silva is a stepping stone to the title the way the division stands now there's something seriously wrong.

I think he should fight the Dong or the winner or Tarec/Ellenberger after Silva (again, if he beats him) ... sucks for him, but in a tight division like this one where you've fallen out of sync with its time table, you're gonna have to wait a tad longer ...

Yeah, Matt Brown with a win over Erick Silva would be on a 7 fight win streak with no wins over a top 10 UFC WW.  It's just the way he's been matched up really.  You can't beat top 10 fighters if you don't face them.

He was however set to face Condit December 14th but was injured and had to pull out.  Woodley stepped in at UFC 171 and is now a top 10 WW.  If Brown gets past Silva, he needs Joe Silva to give him that Condit-type matchup again and hope to stay healthy to see it through as he lost a really big opportunity to possibly cement himself as a contender by not being able to face Condit in December on a UFC on FOX card.

@nogfan- I was just making sure they weren't going to Scotland and I didn't hear about it yet.

Brown needs a top ten opponent like a few of you said, Ellenberger/Saffedine would be good for Brown if he beats Silva.

I don't how someone could give Tyron Woodley, who's on a 2 fight win streak against Josh Koscheck who isn't a top 10 guy anymore and against Carlos Condit, who's knee blew out, a title shot, and also give Hector Lombard, who is also on a 2 fight win streak against Nate Marquardt, who hasn't been the same fighter after he beat Woodley in Strikeforce, and against Jake Shields, who i believe is a great fighter but Lombard didn't really look impressive in that fight, a title shot

Over a guy in Matt Brown who is on a on a 6 fight win streak, 7 if he beats Erick Silva, with wins over guys like Mike Pyle, Jordan Mein, and Stephen Thompson who were all top 15 welterweights at the time he faced them

I don't really care who they give it to now. You can make a case for any top ww that's not coming off of a loss. Even Robbie who technically is, but I think any of the potential match ups will make for entertaining main events. Some how I didn't even think of Matt Brown yet but, I like that too.

After going thru my WW rankings I think Hendricks should fight Lombard next. If you compare Lombard to Woodley it gets pretty clear imo!

Woodley lost to Shields and Marquardt and Lombard beat them both, Woodley just got lucky in the Condit fight which wasn't a fight he deserved to begin with...

@Jaffa got it right

Hendricks vs Lombard
Woodley vs Rory Mac (Nr.1 contender)

In addition I'd make

Dong vs Shields
Lawler vs Condit (If it's not a serious injury)
Gastelum vs Koscheck
Story vs Hathaway
Gunni Nelson vs Maia
Kampmann vs Pyle
Hyun Gyu Lim vs Adlan Amagov

And we already have

Ellenberger vs Saffiedine
Brown vs Silva

@die, Seems about right except I'd switch:

Lawler vs Condit with Lawler vs Diaz II
Dong vs Ellenburger/Sponge winner
Shields vs Ellenburger/Sponge loser

@IAmLegend012, you basically answered yourself in the question ... it's not about how long your streak is, it's who the streak (or even one win) is against.

Woodley's win is against the #2 contender before the fight and injury or not, he was winning the fight.
Lombard's win was a complete domination of the guy who just beat Rory's last win and was top 10.
Rory beat Maia when he was ranked in the top 10 (though I believe that both Woodley and Lombard have a better claim than him as of now).

Matt Brown has an impressive streak, but none of them are top 10 wins. Barao came into the UFC on a 20+ win streak, should he have got an immediate title shot?

7 UFC wins is a crazy streak, but when you're fighting the middle of the pack don't you think it's a bit easier to streak?

WW division is so congested with talented prospects and contenders. I don't think Johny, Lombard, Woodley ect are NEARLY talented enough to hold onto the belt like GSP was or I believe Weidman and Cain will be.

Please never use the "he was losing up to that point" argument against fighters that traditionally lose the first round of their fights (Condit, Rory, Anderson, to name a few of the more relevant ones).

Condit's injury was a freak one. He didn't make a fatal mistake like Anderson did, he was simply taken down and hurt his knee.

By the way, I have said this before, and I will say this again: Johny Hendricks is one of the most talented guys we've ever seen. Yesterday Hendricks and Lawler engaged in one of the best striking battles I've ever seen, and Johny is supposedly a wrestler.
