There are a bunch of decent events that sometimes get passed on so I figured why not do a thread like Poland , Brazil and Japan have.

Can't wait to see Dmitriy Sosnovskiy fight. He is a slick fighter with good striking and grappling. Hoping he takes a step up in competition after this.

RIP Guram and Hans. Sucks to lose guys like them in such unexpected ways.

You don't have to wait long. Here's his fight from last Saturday against Ivo Cuk at Oplot Challenge 104.

I was thinking about what were the Russian MMA events pre 2003?  I know IAFC was around via Riosports but what else? I not mean events like RINGS or M1 either. Anyone name any?

Glad Volkov is taking fights while waiting for Minakov. This is definetively a step up from his last fight in Russia. Kudin has KO power. Maybe Volkov looks to take the fight to the ground in this one

So, what's the deal with Vasilav Vasilevsky? He has to be one of the best MWs in the world outside the UFC, and at 27-2 with plenty of wins being over noteworthy competition...one of the best prospects in MMA too. He's only 26 years old....very technical, very athletic and a rare non Muslim Russian talent. Does M-1 just have him trapped or does the UFC not know who he is?

Dzhabar Askerov is not a fan of Conor McGregor

Dzhabar Askerov has recently given an interview/Q&A with the fans on occasion of his first pro MMA fight (he had a few in 2000s, but apparently they were considered ammies), in which he was asked a bunch of questions about Conor McGregor. Some of his comments on the subject were:

"I dislike both his fighting style and his behaviour."
"At first his silliness was somewhat amusing, but it got boring fast."
"He's achieved more with his mouth than with his fights (literally "deeds")."
"I've never seen him fight top fighters."
"There might be [in the future] a similar star in Russia, but they will draw attention to themselves with their fights rather than words."
"He prances around like an escort girl." (my translation might be a bit off on that one, but it comes down to him comparing McGregor to a loud/noisy hooker that tries to draw attention to herself)

"If the enemy rejects the ground, I would take him down by tackle. Why didn’t he [Royler] do so? May I introduce him to a good coach? His tackle was... like a girl’s one... Mr. Royler, how are you feeling?" - Kazushi Sakuraba

Russians as a whole are just better mixed martial artists than there american or brazillian counterparts.
