Its good that he walks away before he gets hurt. Id hate for him to go on and keep getting KOd. Id rather him retire as that **** talking brawling bad boy from TUF 1 with bricks for hands. And not some guy that just stayed in the UFC way past his prime and got abused by sub par fighters. He gave us fans a lot of exciting fights. He doesnt owe anybody anything except for himself. He owes it to himself to leave as the crippler and not a crippled fighter that father time did a number on.

When you listen to a replay of him saying he was done last night, it is kind of eerie to think that he was most likely talking about his career and not just the fight. Some people hate Chris but I have always been a huge fan. It was kind of an emotional moment to see him hang em up right there. I'm glad he went willingly and didn't have to be forced out publicly.

I've always been such a big Leben fan, always was one of my favorites. It would suck to see him retire, but at the same time I feel like it's the right thing to do.

No need to go fight elsewhere unless it's for big money or if he's broke because he should avoid being on the end of anymore punishment at this point in his life.

I think he's just better off calling it quits if he's financially stable.

Yeah I was just assuming that he would be broke and SFL would pay millionz. You're probably right.

Dana has said that most of the tuf 1 guys will be well taken care of. Leben has his own gym and I'm sure he will get some position within the UFC, maybe as the pacific talent scout or something.

He deserves credit as he has been able hang around for so long

Leben's always been kind of underrated.  He had pretty good skills when he chose to use them, and he beat some very good fighters. I wish him the best of luck.

my first thought when he said Im done was it was a "Im retiring after this fight win or loose, the kids are just too fast/strong/athletic these days" didnt even occur to me he meant the fight.
Choosing to stop like that, after a round a few refs might have given a tko in the last second and almost certainly would be stopped at say 5:05 if it was a longer round, I think is a smarter choice than I would previously have expected from Chris, so maybe the sport hasnt completely broken him yet.
Best of luck in the future, thanks for the memories, there has been some epic moments.

Unfortunately for Leben, he suffered the same fate as many of the pioneers of MMA. The sport just plain and simply evolved around him. Leben had a great career, and at one time, I had him ranked as the #1 contender for the UFC MW Championship. Until he got beaten by Anderson Silva.

I didn't start out a huge Chris Leben fan, but like many MMA fighters, he just grew on me after a while, and if I didn't see him fight for a while, I would be like, "hey where's Chris Leben? I wouldn't mind seeing him fight again." IMO, Leben was a MW mirror image of Chuck Liddell. Love him or hate him, you had to respect him and know that he is a true fighter. Leben fought anyone put in front of him, he wasn't afraid of anyone, he didn't duck anyone, and he gave it everything he had in every single fight. That's what made him so exciting and so well respected by MMA fighters, fans, and enthusiasts.

Speaking for myself, I know that I will miss watching Chris Leben fight. He gave us many great fights, and many great memories. I wish him luck in the next chapter of his life in whatever he sets out to accomplish. Thank you Chris for all the great and exciting fights.

I truly like and respect Chris.  He did as much with his talent as anyone could reasonably expect of him.

His high moment was his win over Wanderlei Silva.  His low moment was his loss to Anderson Silva.

I will miss Chris and hope he put something away for a rainy day.  Plus his gym should do well.  I'd love for the UFC to find him a post as a scout or something.

Makes sense, his youtube vlog made him seem rather unhappy with the sport. He's accomplished quite a bit and will be remembered, its just his time has passed. He said it himself on twitter, fighters like Uriah are just too athletic of Leben to compete with.
