He was probably thinking:

"I faced Anderson Silva and I am still alive... That can only mean... I AM INVINCIBLE!"

This is the only thing I can think of to explain this situation. Then again, his jiu-jitsu is really that good... Do you guys think he would stand a chance?

Top level 185 pound wrestler attempting to fight Jon Jones? I've seen this before, and it was a mauling.

He'd do well to keep his attention focused on Anderson. He's not out of that fire yet.

And you'll get 1000% elbowed to death, Chris.

Stay Humble Chris...You got Anderson in front of you again...I'd be worried about that...

Hey if he wants to serve himself up like a turkey then more power to him.

He talked his way to probably his biggest payday. Even if (when) he gets blasted by Jones he'll be laughing all the way to the bank.

He should worry about Anderson being out for vengeance before even thinking about Jonny.

Sonnen is a bad example, Weidman is better in every aspect of the game.

I think talking about superfights before even defending the belt once is a bit premature ... they say you're not truly a champ until you've defended the belt once, so I say solidify you status as "super" before attaching yourself to superfights.

Matt Serra won the belt too, would a fight between him and Anderson Silva at the time be a superfight? Hell, no!

Where is the source on this?

I highly doubt Weidman is the one asking about a superfight at this point, he's been too humble. If he even did say these things its probably because a journalist asked him if he'd fight Jon Jones now that he beat Anderson Silva.... he probably said i'd love the challenge and now the world assumes he's lobbying for a superfight!

I saw the interview where they asked him. They asked about him fighting GSP first, to which he replied "No, he's smaller than me" but said he would gladly fight Jones. So no he's not lobbying at all.

He just got the title not a month ago and the media is talking superfight? How about he strings together a few title defenses before they start asking dumb questions like that.

You can't really blame Weidman for those questions. Unless you're a seasoned vet like Nick "people like that get slapped" Diaz or Rampage who actually did slap Helwani, it's easy to get sucked in to those questions.

Why are people actually upset with that? You guys should be thankful for a guy like Chris Weidman.

We need champs like that in the UFC. Weidman has shown again and again that he'll take fights on short notice and how tough he really is. Will he remain the champ? Who cares. The guy just wants to fight the best and I personally praise the fearless fighters that speak their mind.

With that said, if Weidman wins the Silva rematch, I'd rather see him against Belfort as I find that match up pretty interesting. A fight with Jones would be fun to see though, mainly because I'd be interested in seeing what Chris would bring to the table in that battle.

Of all the guys to beat Silva, I'm glad it was Chris Weidman. I'm very biased towards American fighters.

@amp and @oldnick pointed out good points about the media mentioning "superfights". i'm not sure why i didn't think of that. the media clearly did their job. however, i would hope that weidman is just stating he would fight jon jones rather than be in a superfight with jon jones. if he establishes himself as extremely dominant one day then add in the superfight part, but until then, it's just a fight.

First of all chris weidman needs to get some title defenses before he even thinks about a superfight with jones.

@BeastOfBurden

Why? If they offered it to him and he denied it he'd be crucified for "ducking" Jones.

So far, in the short time he's been the champ, he was asked for an Anderson Silva rematch which he said "Yes" and was asked about Jon Jones which he said "Yes".

Weidman will take fights that are offered to him. I haven't seen him say "doesn't deserve" or "in the future" about his opponents or even himself. He's not shying away from anything. He's simply stating that he will fight them. With so many people worried about their "legacy" and fighters pulling out of fights all the time, this is a prime example of the warrior spirit that people should support, instead of looking at the politics behind all of it.

I don't think Weidman is serious about the Jones fight. I think he was just answering the question. Weidman still needs to fight Silva again. If he can beat Silva for the 2nd time, I will be the first to be for a superfight.

Media did the same thing with Jones after he beat Shogun. He just got the title and people are talking about a superfight with Silva.

There are some serious contenders at 185. I understand answering the question and not backing down from any fights, but if he doesn't keep his attention on the guys in front of him presently he'll have a short lived reign as champion.

I reckon Weidman should first focus on defending the title at least once :)
