People keep talking about Chael's sub defense ... I think it's irrelevant in this case since Chael is usually more susceptible to chokes, armbars and triangles, (being a wrestler who's mostly on top), basically **** that's thrown from the bottom or on the way down, Shogun hardly ever throws them, he goes for knees and ankles and usually uses them to sweep. 

Good luck catching Chael Sonnen in a kneebar. Ain't gonna happen.

Just because Chael used to have **** sub defense doesn't mean he's (or more likely 'was') vulnerable to every submission in the book, you also need to look at what kind of submission guy his opponent is, and Chael's style negates any kind of leglock because he's usually based up with his legs thrown back and pounding your face in.

Chael Sonnen's got ******* horrible submission defense according to everyone...have any of you seen the people who have submitted him?

It's evident that he has substantially improved in this current UFC run but **** it, let's count every single person to ever submit Chael Sonnen.

2003: Trevor Prangley (12 career submission wins)
2003: Forrest Griffin (black belt in Jiu-Jitsu)
2004, 2006: Jeremy Horn (61 career submission wins, only person to ever submit Chuck Liddell, arguably one of the top 10 greatest grapplers in MMA history)
2005: Babalu Sobral (2nd degree black belt in Jiu-Jitsu, 19 career submission wins)
2007: Paulo Filho (black belt Jiu-Jitsu and Judo, at the time was one of the P4P best in the world)

And in his current UFC run...

2009: Demian ******' Maia
2010: Anderson ******' Silva

No explanation needed there.

Maybe Chael Sonnen isn't the worst jiu-jitsu guy of all-time, like a bunch of people make it sound like. Maybe it's who he's facing? Hintetty ******' hint hint?

I agree AnikM. He does not have the worst sub defense. I just think Sonnen stamina is suspect due to his style. He needs a lot of energy to fight the way he does and he has very little power. He gunna start gassing in the second round like he typically does and then be gassed in the 3rd where Rua will take over. Rua gasses as well but he gets a much better second wind then Sonnen does. Sonnen style requires far more energy.  So i deff agree that Sonnen Sub defenses is better then people say by quite a bit, but his stamina is vastly overrated by peope. He seems to gas in a lot of his fights.

Rua has too much heart for Chael Sonnen, he might get taken down and beaten up a bit but he'll threaten with subs and get back to his feet to knock Chael out. Sonnen has been working on improving his sub defense so I don't think he'll get submitted early, it's more likely later in the fight when he is tired and that defense is worn down.

Even then I don't think Shogun will be looking for the submission, he'd probably go for GNP.

Rua will stop Chael eventually. He has too many weapons in this fight. His jiujitsu is great and has swept the likes of Ricardo Arona, Mark Coleman and Lyoto Machida, I think he'll be able to do just that to Chael if he doesn't catch him in a submission.

Chael Sonnen's stamina is being ridiculously underrated, the man always keeps up a solid pace. I'm confused as to why everyone all of a sudden's changed their opinion on that.

Plus he's going against a fighter who's notoriously well known for gassing out in Shogun. Other than Dan Henderson I don't know any good LHW who gasses the way Shogun does.

Yeah I always thought Sonnen had decent cardio, it's leagues above Shoguns for sure. But that isn't going to matter when Shogun blasts him in the first round!!!

Sonnen definitely has better cardio, Shogun has more heart. I'd like to think Shogun will just knock him out, but Chael has a really good chance of grinding out a decision. Shogun's gas tank is terrible, but I'll never pick Chael Sonnen in a fight ever.

So I gotta predict a early knockout for Rua, or a 4th or 5th round TKO due to having more heart. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Chael wins though. Head says Chael, heart says Shogun.

Shale should probably win via wrestling and smothering top control but can he pull that off for five rounds? Dunno. Can he finish Shogun? Doubtful. Dunno how seriously Shale is taking MMA at this point with his TV career and i do question his cardio especially going into the later rounds, this being a 5 round fight makes a big difference. He should win but no confidence.

Sonnen might b able to take down Shogun a few times. But i think Shogun is on a different level than Sonnen. Lets b real guys Sonnen isnt fighting Brian Stann. Hell I think Sonnen shouldve lost to Bisping. So I dont think he has a chance in hell to beat Shogun. Shogun wants to beat Sonnen so bad for talking **** about his country he cant see straight. So he will KO Sonnen in the first or early in the 2nd rd..

I am so ******* confused by all this Sonnen has no cardio bologna be spewed everywhere like chemtrails trying to poison Tapology fortunately Anik is fighting the good fight today.  

As far as picking this fight I have no idea what I am gonna do?  Take a chance on an all time great and of my all time favorites or pick Sonnen, the guy that I find the most entertaining all around talent in the UFC today and also one of my all time favorites.

Chael is too old. He's had a nice, long career. He's tough and rugged and a hard worker like a field ox. But, when that ox gets too old and starts to slow down... begins to fall behind on its work and not pulling its weight around the farm, it's best to just put that ox out to pasture. Shogun is the farmer, and his fists are the shotgun.

Rua looked relaxed and focused at weigh ins.... seemed to have no concern... sonnen is gonna be a wuss and cover up to strikes, just like he's been doing. I think he's in it for the money now.
