Beat me to it. Sucks to lose someone as beastly as him from such a shallow division but his body was so ****** up that him continuing to fight would have just been dumb.

Kinda sucks to see him hang it out. I am from Greeley, Colorado just like him so he's kinda a hometown hero of mine.
After all his injuries and **** though I think it's the right decision though.

It was definitely the best choice for him, i don't think he would have been the same monster he was before.

I would have liked to see him go out with a win but I think it's best for him. Severe neck and knee injuries in your late 30's is a good reason to retire.

Honestly I am not surprised nor am I disappointed. He was a nice guy but I think he was using steroids, He was unnaturally large even for his build. He also had at least used it in the past. Also all the injuries points to past if not present steroid use.  Also he was not close to being champ at all. Dos and Cain would destroy him. He also in my opinion would lose to both overreem, roy and werdrum.

Wow franklin way to accuse someone of something without any credible reasons other then he looks like he did. That is so wrong to do it's not even funny. You're THAT guy though so it doesn't surprise me.

Actually, it's quite obvious he was on steroids, at least early in his career.  Just look at pictures of him when he fought at super heavyweight.  There was a story a few years ago where Carwin was one of 22 athletes receiving steroids from a criminal drug ring in Alabama.  This was earlier in his career.  So, yes, Shane Carwin used steroids.  Look it up.

Any credible source? I don't believe that ********* look at him then and look at him now........people change the way they eat, their commitment to fitness their entire lifestyle. People are so quick to yell steroids right away if someone is built a certain way. Some athletes do and some don't but just to throw out empty accusations on someone is complete ****.

I wanted him to come back, there were still plenty of fights for him at HW although I don't think he could've get past any top 5.

Was one of my favorite fighters. Guess the injuries made it hard it him. Smart dude though. Didn't give up his day job as an engineer. He'll be more than fine.

@P4p,

With out any evidence? Carwin was listed as one of doctors clients for taking steriods (which was common knowledge, well at least for knowledgeable MMA fans). Carwin management denied he still used it, but he was in fact outed for using it. But thank you for talking out your ass yet again p4p. Thank you Swick for providing a link. I did not want to have to go find it.

Love how I get down arrowed for speaking the truth. People are just butt hurt.

Cant blame him with recent injuries.
From seeing him on TUF I suspect theres a future in training/cornering if he wants it
