Nick Denis was doing his Ph.D at the same University I go to, before he started MMA. I can understand why. much better career.

That's disappointing, he had a few of my favorite highlights.  Hope he has a nice retirement and enjoys life after fighting.

He retired because of research he was doing on CTE. Completely disagree with you Jits on whatever he's doing with his PhD being a better career, I could list numerous reasons why.

NOOOOO! He was exciting. His loss to Delorme was dissapointing, but a great fight were he was just caught in a great choke. Well hope he does well in his life after MMA.

I can understand having a Ph.D and walking away form MMA, completely understandable. most people don't have such a solid base to walk from.

Just looked it up Denis doesn't have a phD he dropped out to pursue fighting, and like I said he retired because he's scared of concussions, which is kind of ******ish when he's never even had one.

Really? As someone who claims to train you should know its very rare to get knocked unconscious during training especially for a guy that small. And he's only been finished by strikes once his whole career..... So could he have had one or two, possibly. But your post was just stupid considering you have 0 evidence.

My post stupid? I don't know...for you to think that you need to be knocked unconscious in order to be concussed might just be a tad bit stupider.

You dont need to be KO'd to get a concussion, chances are if you do any contact sport you have had at least 1 concussion

You both might want to go webmd that ****, because a concussion that's mild enough to have any sort of chance to contribute to CTE, yes at the least a minor loss of consciousness is required.

Even if that's true, that was not the argument. You said he never had a concussion, I said he's definitely had some. You defined concussion as head trauma that leads to a state of unconsciousness, I said that you don't need to be unconscious to have suffered a concussion.

Whether or not it contributes to CTEs is irrelevant.

@Messiah
Do you actually train in any form of hand to hand combat? People get rocked and flash KO'd all the time in sparring sessions, especially during kickboxing.

As for your claims as to why Nick decided to retire, post up the source.

Regardless of what reason, he is a human being and he chose what he felt was best for him. Best of luck to Nick Denis in his future endeavors.

Here's the source Nick. Enjoy.

By the way, if you read it Nick Denis is pretty much saying the exact opposite of what messiah is saying, and then proceeds to back what he says up with reason and proof...instead of telling us to "webmd that ****".

@MMAmessiash no, it's not. you're not only being an ass calling people's post stupid for no reason, but you're also wrong. http://heavyfists.com/difference-knockout-concussion

Myth: A player who has been knocked unconscious will suffer a worse concussion than a player who didn't lose consciousness. "A player doesn't have to be knocked out to sustain a serious concussion," Hummel said. "In some cases, individuals who are knocked out may suffer less severe trauma. In either case, the severity of the concussion might not be known for days or weeks." I have been diagnosed with 4 concussions... only 1 of them did I lose consciousness.

Here's where he says its about concussions

And it says here he dropped out of school to pursue fighting

http://www.ufc.com/fighter/Nick-Denis

At the very least he's a ******* moron to give up a doctorate for something he quit at as soon as he started to be successful...

And yeah nick I do more so recently which has contributed to my less time here, and no it is not common for BWs to give each other concussions in training, unless you're being stupid. And I'll admit you're probably one of if not the only guy who knows more MMA at I do, but I do know what you look like and would say that you on the other hand probably have not.

@kalibo losses of consciousness can be for less than a second and in those cases it's very unlikely that you would even realize you did lose consciousness, unless of course you were in a fight with a ref who's looking for that. Like I've said he's only been stopped by strikes once, and I think that if he had been diagnosed with a concussion or multiple ones that he would have referred to that in his retirement blog, but he didn't he just said he didn't want to get one.

Does calling people morons makes it easier for you to look in the mirror in the morning? People change career paths all the time.

"And yeah nick I do more so recently which has contributed to my less time here, and no it is not common for BWs to give each other concussions in training, unless you're being stupid."

You're training in hand to hand combat. Sometimes it happens regardless of people being stupid.

"And I'll admit you're probably one of if not the only guy who knows more MMA at I do, but I do know what you look like and would say that you on the other hand probably have not."

Sorry, but your obviously the moron here. I don't need to justify myself to you... but since you brought it up here's a photo of me:

I don't get how that shows whether I train or not.

Oh, and nice to have you back on the forums.

You're a smart guy Chase, you know most of your ****. Your problem is that you don't know when you're wrong and you will keep defending your wrong argument, even if you end up sounding like a complete idiot.

The levels of stupidity in that post directed to Nick...
