According to MMAPayout.com

Too bad for "The Predator."  I'm still a fan of his but the knee injury really seems to have screwed him, and his wrestling and ground game just don't seem to be enough.  Good luck to Cote and maybe he'll be back in UFC or another big promotion soon.

that's a shame considering he fought for the title not long ago, but his last performance was the definition of lackluster.  for three rounds he barely threw a punch, didn't land a punch, didn't manage a standup, and just generally looked helpless against a guy in Tom Lawlor that others have been very competitive against.  so . . . seems fair.  and he is right, he could be back.

It was pretty much expected after get held down for 3 rounds. Cote needs to be able to fight off the ground a skill he has never been able to grasp. He likely would have been finished early if it were not for the fence grab he used to pull himself out of a submission hold. He should be working on nothing but wrestling and Jiu-Jitsu all the time.

It's kind of interesting how certain guys get slotted in at a particular skill level within UFC divisions.  Cote didn't get any easy fights and was pretty much locked into that "near-contender" gatekeeper type level.

There are definitely guys lower down at 185 that get preliminary card victories that Cote could almost certainly defeat.  But I guess once you reach main-card status, UFC brass expects you to maintain that level of performance.

Keith Jardine comes to mind in the same situation.  4 losses in a row obviously means you get cut.  But there are LHW's still in UFC that Jardine would beat.

@Gregory I think the UFC cuts guys that they don't think are developing. Under-developed fighters that continue to improve constitute an investment for the promotion based on upside. Fighters like Jardine and Cote who don't bring a lot of fan interest and aren't showing forward progress in skills are a waste of money, despite their relative abillities.

The same is true in other sports. Veterans get cut to make room for rookies that don't make an immediate impact, but may prove to help the franchise in the future.

I think you are right.  And some of these "veterans" are also commanding higher pay for each fight, giving the UFC a financial incentive to focus on younger/newer guys instead.

Still, I guess what I was trying to say is that just because Cote or Jardine get cut from the UFC doesn't mean they were the worst fighter in their weight class.  They just were the odd man out.

@Gregory Yeah, and it must really suck knowing that you're better than some fighters that get to stay on the payroll.
I think there are three tiers of fighters allowed in the UFC: The World Beaters (those that can conceivably win a title), The Prospects (young guys that show a lot of promise), and The Entertainers (Sam Stout, Chris Lytle, Tom Lawlor, etc.) It's up to the the individual fighter to know where they rank and how to adjust their game to remain in these categories. Cote was long past a prospect and should have made the move from World Beater to Entertainer.

I would definitely be in the entertainer category.  After every fight people would get a good laugh looking at me.

She suddenly realized she'll never escape the allure of a black man, white man needing satisfaction. At first it became a practice but now she's numb to it. Sometimes she wonder if she could do it like nuns do it.
