Matt Mitrione actually thinks he's in the position to pick and choose.

Meathead is not an idiot, he wants to work his way up the ladder, he doesnt want to get grapple****** a few spots back by an Olympic caliber wrestler. He is smart in not taking the DC fight, and im glad he didnt, DC deserves somebody that can beat a injured Kongo

Mitrione is one of those guys who can run his mouth but can't handle when it comes back around. Even as unmotivated as Rampage has been I bet Rampage would KO this clown in the 1st round. In my opinion Mitrione doesn't even belong in the UFC. He should go join his buddy McCorkle in the land of irrelevance.

Im glad he turned it down, I have no interest in a Mitrione/Cormier fight. Mitrione is a huge step down from Barnett

The fight didn't make sense... I wonder why they offered that fight to Mitrione in the first place.

That's just a stupid matchup. A guy coming off of a loss against Kongo, against one of the best heavyweights on the planet. Great matchmaking right there.

What is this fight in the first place ? Mitrione is coming off a loss and is nowhere near the top ten. Cormier vs Matt would have been bad match making. So I can understand he doesn't want to fight Cormier.

On the other hand, he shouldn't go around calling out 205ers or critizing Jon Jones for not taking the fight with Chael, that **** just looks bad now.

@Live2Wrestle

Me neither man, I was just amazed by his audacity, like he's Anderson Silva or Jon Jones who can afford to turn down fights.

Him vs. Cormier would be a 2:30 minute massacre at the most, but Dana needed him to step up because they've promised Strikeforce a UFC fighter for his last fight and they want that fight to be over already so they can bring Cormier to the UFC and start building on him, and Mitrione's status in the organization is that of one who should pull a Kingsbu and eat the loss so that when that day comes where he's on a 2-3 losing streak and they're deciding whether to cut him or not, he'll have that "remember the Cormier thing" card to give him some company man points.

Or even on the much much much less likely scenario where him and another guy are next in line for a title shot (heh heh, I'm laughing while I'm writing this), he'll be the one that gets the nod. *pfffffffffffffffffffffttttt* ROFL!

@Kalibo

They probably offered it to him to get it over with.

They can't give Strikeforce a no-name (because that would just suck for them) or a relevant title contender (that would ruin said contender), that's why Mir was perfect, he's a big name but had just lost the title and kinda had to do what they asked of him because he's in a bit of a limbo state right now, so scoring company man points is a good route (I'm actually pretty sure that his "injury" isn't one that would have pulled him out of the JDS fight for instance, it was just his way to get out of the Cormier fight without pissing off the boss).

As for Mitrione, well, he's a big-ish name, been on TUF, had a long winning streak, bla bla bla ... He's no Mir, but he'd pass with Showtime execs as a relevant UFC name to make money off with Cormier's last Strikeforce fight.

Don't forget guys, this isn't "matchmaking", this is giving Strikeforce a fighter, so all of the "bad fight" and "bad matchmaking" comments, though valid and spot on, are irrelevant to the case.

DUDE!! Good point! I forgot Mitrione shed all kinds of s**t on Jon Jones for not fighting Chael!! HAHA!! I guess he did too otherwise he'd have a date with Cormier and this whole discussion wouldn't be taking place :))))

I agree with Mitrione in not taking this fight.  This might look like a big opportunity for him, but in my opinion that's only the case if he actually has a chance to win.  Mitrione is nowhere near ready for a fighter like DC.  DC's got faster hands, arguable more power, and a ground game that could put Mitrione on his back in a heartbeat and keep him there.

The fight he's got scheduled in December with De Fries makes way more sense for him.
